I've downloaded it, but I won't try it until I've completed the game the normal way first.
I'm planning to play on 'hard' the first time 'round (one below 'realistic'), as the manual sais that the difficulty only changes how much damage you can take.

Great fun !
:D
I got all the way to the north docks and met the informant, without any bad guys detecting I was even there. I'm now back on the nearby green grass (where the friendly bot patrols).
Even managed to get all the supplies from the north dock, except the underwater ship which I have not lockpicked yet.
I love the fire extinguisher. Even better than flash bombs in Thief.
After playing around with the guards on the northern dock, I did a reload and snuck past them again.
;)
And I think it may be possible to use things like the binoculars as a makeshift light meter, because when you carry it around in your hands, you can see how much it is illuminated (in different levels of shadow).
More soon!

I finally completed Deus Ex earlier today, and yes, it's a nice game indeed... Nothing like Thief, not even close actually, but I still liked it. I found the first couple of mission pretty boring actually, but the game just gets better and better the more you play it. Even though the controls are sometimes a bit annoying and the atmosphere is nothing like Thief's atmosphere, the story is brilliant and it surely keeps you in front of your computer for a couple of weeks! :p

Tomi, the game will keep on getting better and better the more times you complete it, too! I strongly suggest going over it and choosing a completely different playstyle. You'll probably end up in places you'd never even been the first time.

Tis a good game yes, although the collision detection is annoying when pearing round edges, as the darts tend to get stuck in nothing.
You're right, as it says in the manual the difficulty only affects the damage you take - I've tested this. To force myself to be stealthy, I am playing on realistic :) I think even if i was playing it half life style i would play it on realistic - more of a challenge. Being stealthy gives you more satisfaction though, if you think about how the consequences would be in real life, its better that no one knows you've been there/are there.
Read if you've completed the game or got the the escape bit yet and possibly provide help :)
the guy in the armoury - even if you are being stealthy like me - he will see you so its best just to shoot him, no one will hear. I've changed my approach slightly to allow for kills but avoid them if possible. Obviously, it's best to avoid the damn black suits. I am currently pondering in the vents underneath the nanotech lab for a way to get out of the vent and get the aug cannister without being detected. I can hack the pc and make the canister available. The thing is the black suit just moves over to the other side of the room - he doesn't bugger off. I Usually get seen while hacking anyway, and releasing the beasties results in alarm bells everywhere. The problem is with releasing them is that they dont really kill everyone, and although the black suit may be tempted outside, he quickly ventures back in and they automatically know where i am even though no one saw me. This is a bug so i see it only right to exploit the other bugs in the game, like hiding till they think i've vanished (not really a bug but it wouldnt happen in real life). Anyway, any tips? I could do it all guns blazing, but that isn't my preffered approach (headshots are the next best to stealth though). ANyone got any (stealthy) ideas?

I've reached the top of the statue base via the containers at the NE of the statue, and used the "cattle prod" (once) to take out the guard in the nearby bunker. Got in and out of the bunker without taking any damage from the blue lightning, by activating the fork lift and climbing over the defective equipment. I like the fact that you get bonus points for exploring.
So now I'm on top of the statue base, where you collect the two gas mines from the four-way corridors at the top of the stairs. Hope to go grenade climbing tomorrow, but now it's time for some sleep.

All I can say is even though you'll have some background right now, you'll have no idea how the game will blow you away. I've introduced 5 sceptical friends to Deus Ex who thought they knew how good it was then when they realised its scale and its true power came to me and gushed about how amazing it was, lost in their excitement. It's not a game, it's art.

Oh, and another thing - the world of DX is an extremely detailed, complex, and immersive vision of life in 49 years time - and it's grim predictions seem to have an eerie habit of turning out in the Real World. If you want to get the most of that story, read and listen to everything. Talk at length to everyone you meet. Read every book, datacube and newspaper you see. Always check the Public Internet Bulletin machines. Upgrading your Computer skill to Trained (at least) is a very good idea. Use it to hack into every computer you come across. You can learn a lot about what's going on for a particular character, or in a particular situation, by reading email. Not to mention using Security Terminals to control security cameras, open doors, deactivate alarms, and (on higher levels) control defense turrets. Great.
Of course, you don't have to do any of this, it's just my recommendation. I got far more out of the game doing things that way.

Absolutely, Z !
Being an old Thief fan, I try to read and explore everything.
Where there's a hole to look into, or a stack of containers to climb, I will investigate.
Why do I get the feeling I'm working for the bad guys?
