Smilla Jaspersen: does this ring a bell?

i've emailed the man who wrote the mini parts for Jacob's shadow a few months ago. he assured me it was not a book that existed, and that pheraps he would use it for a real novel some day. he also sent me all the parts of Jacob's shadow, but asked that i not distribute it, so I won't. :D I was pretty amazed that he would respond so quickly and politely. :)

Just want to confirm that Jacob's Shadow is not a real book. The sections were written by (

I dont know about Smilla Jasperson, but Hippolyta Hall from Los Angeles is a big character in the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman.

On the subject of the Hotel Register:
Gully Foyle - The Stars My Destination, by Mark Wilson
Gabriel Syme - The Man Who Was Thursday, by G.K. Chesterton
Oberst Enzian - Gravity's Rainbow, by Thomas Pynchon
(Corrections appreciated).

I got The Man Who was Thursday out from the school library today. So far I have read 4 chapters and it is quite interesting. I have not read novels for close to a decade and so am finding the language rather different from reading science papers. I saw Napoleon of Notting Hill next to it but it didn't strike me as very interesting. So many text books to read, I just don't have much time to indulge in literature.

I liked it -- I loved Sunday's deception. And the title is great, too.

I thought TMWWT was an interesting book, but I didn't really 'get' it. Probably something you have to read a couple of times to really understand it.
If anyone wants to read it, you can get it here:
(

It comes in various formats. Don't worry, it's legal. :)

(Corrections appreciated). the stars my destination, originally entitled tyger tyger, was written by Alfred Bester. it's a DAMN GOOD book, so don't give credit to someone who had nothing to do with it while ignoring the author.

Smilla Jaspersen is from Peter Hoeg's Smilla's sense of snow
That was mentioned in this forum before.
But does anyone know why they put her name in the guest book of the 'ton;
or for that matter if they had reasons to put the other persons' names there?
Was it just for fun, because they were just reading that book, becasue they had liked this or that book; or are there any other links?
