Just did the military warehouses mission for the Duty leader (where you have to get the Bulldog grenade launcher). I also accepted the mission to kill the Duty stalker who'd gone over to freedom and was in the freedom base I had to (ostensibly) get the grenade launcher from. On the way in, I bumped into some duty guys preparing to assault the freedom base and wanted me to kill a sniper for them, but I declined as I had business to conduct there first.
So, I go in, get my reward for killing some bloodsuckers in the village (which I did en route to the base) then trade with the freedom leader, who has an awesome GP37 gun which I want NOW. Only I can't afford it. Being used to having ca. 100,000 RU, this came as a shock. But I swallowed my pride and left him to it.
Went and spoke to the chef and got the info on the grenade launcher - thanks chef!
Then I find the stalker I've agreed to 'take out' for Duty, only he's a gate guard and cooking that fool there would be suicide.
I have a plan.
I go back to the duty guys preparing to assault, accept the mission to kill the sniper, then go back in to the base (give the sniper's tower a wide berth as he shoots on sight when you're in the base if he's spotted you beforehand), walk up the sniper's tower and knife him in the back with no consequence in the base at ALL. After all, I'm just a regular, non-affiliated stalker guy right?
I go back to the Duty guys having done this, they ask if I'll take the rest of the snipers out for them, but that's too hot for my blood, so I let them storm the base (which involves a cool sequence where they blow the wall up!) and I follow from behind watching. They do get creamed, but not before taking out most of the freedom guys in the base, INCLUDING the guy I was supposed to kill (WIN!) and a couple of guys with GP37 ARs, so I grab me one (for FREE this time), hot-foot it back to the bar and the Duty guy gives me a kick ass suit and an automatic silenced sniper rifle.
In no other game I've ever played is this kind of micro-political tactic something which can be plotted so on the fly and pay off so well.
This game just rocks in so many ways!

Damn right.

You were lucky that no one else noticed when you killed that first sniper... I was unable to do it.

I was disappointed when I actually managed to kill the freedom guy at the front gate that duty wants dead without any of the freedom base noticing. Logically the best idea would be to use a silenced weapon from a long range and then split. Sadly in the game, the best idea is to just walk right up behind him with a knife...

I did exactly that, and the result was that Freedom became my enemies for life :p

I didn't even know about the job to wack that sniper for the Duty guys.
I kept getting creamed by the power suited mercs that would jump me as soon as I got into the warehouse map, instead of fighting it out right there I finally managed to run off to the right of the map entrance from Rostok and wound up behind a tree right next to the wall of the Freedom base. I noticed the sniper and that he was hostile so I stayed out of his line of fire while dealing with the mercs who were now just catching up, and then sniped the sniper since his hostility and sniper rifle made me nervous. :erm:
Anyhow the Freedom guys never got pissed at me for it and I eventually wound up getting his rifle from the tower. :cheeky: Of course my joy is short lived when I discover that it uses the 7.76 rounds and that stuff is about as common as an honest politician. :grr:
After my first run through the game I'm using a sniper mod this time, so it's sniper rifles right from square one and no ammo shortages here.

Yeah, the barman in Rostok sent me to kill a guy out in the millitary warehouse area, I'm expecting a bandit or some other baddie, not just a regular stalker like me. So while I'm standing nearby debating on wether I really want to kill this guy or not he decides to go wandering into an electrical
anomaly, moral dilemma solved.

Well, I was given free run of the base and no one questioned me sneaking up the tower.
I think using the knife was key - for some reason, silenced weapons still draw a bit of a crowd.

I tried that, but always got spotted and then force fed lead.

At least I wasn't the only one. But this gives me motivation for a new run, since so far I haven't completed any Freedom quests (apart from the one you seem to get automatically assigned to as soon as you get to the border between the Army Warehouse and Red Forest).

I love these STALKER stories. Anyone know where I can read more like this?! Thanks!
