******spoilers********
Yes, I just finished Deus Ex Invisible War.
Laid out in front of me were not 2, not 3, but 4.. FOUR different endings!! Awesome. The problem is:
.
.
.
.
.
They are all bad and not one of them left a good impression on myself.
We have these endings:
Denton/Helios/Alex Denton merger (A world run by machines and everyone is equal)
Illuminati Ending (A world run by a tiny group as it was pre-Collapse)
Knights Templar Ending (similiar to the Dark Ages ending in Deus Ex I with Tracer Tong)
Renegade Ending (also known as Omar Cyborg Empire ending: Leo & Alex)
.
.
.
.
.
Yeah.. So many endings and I wasn't satisfied with any of those. I just face the facts knowing that Deus Ex Invisible War has endings that have no solid "good" purpose. Each ending feels wrong to me and no good can come out of it.. but I guess that's what "Deus Ex" is all about right?
The trip back to UNATCO, and other parts of JC Denton's mind near the end of the game were really cool. It really saddens me how much of the collapse hurt Liberty Island though. The place is a total dump.
The graphics, while being very good, totally lack the size and scale of the previous Unreal-engined game which had huge maps for levels. The entire Liberty Island was one map (besides underground UNATCO HQ) I hate all the load times Invisible War presents.
I am thankful to hear Deus Ex III is in the works and now I wonder, which of the 4 endings will it take? :) Hopefully not the Omar one, that is the most depressing.
Now.. to play through this entire game again, with a better video card (in spring of 04) with new choices.. the party has just begun!
Things I loved:
-Storyline
-Graphics
-Scenarios
-All the choice I can make to help or not help
-The return of many loveable characters like Paul Denton, JC Denton, Nicolette DuClare, Chad Dumier, honourable mentions of characters like Bob Page. Cool mention of Gunther Hermann
Things I detested
-Interface (there HAS to be a petition for the old DX GUI to come back!)
-Map sizes (what happened to the grand scale and awe of Liberty Island sized maps?)
-Load times
-Voice acting and annoyances
-Universal ammo (yeah I know it's all nanites & realistic, but bah.. it does suck!
-Not enough locations or time spent in each location
-Walton Simons is really dead :(, no mention of Joseph Manderley, Jayme Reice, or Anna Navarre.
-What happened to Morgan Everett?
-The whole "console" feel to the game :(
-WHERE IS THE GOOD MUSIC that the ORIGINAL GAME had? No good tunes, except for the "broken UNATCO" theme I heard when going through.. broken UNATCO :)
Things I'm not sure if I liked or not:
-Ending
Finished game in: 12 hours 30 minutes. oooh, about 3/4 of the time spent playing the original Deus Ex.

Would you have desire to run thru it several more times though? I think that's something they were going for...
I'd like games to be shorter, but in exchange
packed with detail and to be very non-linear, thus contributing to the value of replay.

Oh heck yeah, I plan to go through it many many times yet.. but I'd prefer to play it "the way it was meant to be played".. I need an uber-graphics card.. I'll wait until DooM 3 is out until getting the best video card though. (April 04)

Now 12 hours 30 minutes...?
What a junk...
Well, I thought the first DX was a BIT too long (usually about 45 - 55 hours of playing, while I was exploring everything. Some parts were tedious.)
But this is just lame. I would say that 30 hours would be okay, but 12 hours are lame for the money it costs. No, increased replayability is not an excuse.
Hmmm, but then, System Shock 2 could be finished in 16 hours or less and I loved it.
I don't know.

I probably could have spent even MORE time exploring, but I did enough of that as it is and I just wanted to get to JC!
Boy was I in for a treat.. /sarcasm.

The non-linear aspects are terribly shallow. You're never barred from doing anything by the choices you make. For example, after killing the MAKO scientist in lieu of the securing the Mag Rail before arriving in Cairo, the WTO still contacts me, asking me for favors upon my arrival. The consequences boil down to my receiving a different message and some 'tude. I can proceed to do both the WTO and the Order missions if I so please. Where's the "infinite replayability" when I can hit all areas in one go? The minute difference in outcomes based on your choices are so insubstantial and slight that it's really a joke. Someone on the Eidos forums hit the nail on the head in saying something along the lines of that the game is a shallow game that prides itself on being deep.

When compared to the original, or even what they SAID it would be.. Deus Ex Invisible War is probably about 25% the effort that was put into "The Conspirary" or DX1.
I am disappointed in those areas.
