Just completed SoC, a few questions. - by zenmaster891

I'm talking about SoC. I always play v1.0004, with two mods installed: real weapons' names, and the mod that allows traders to repair stuff. And at least for me, there's an almost endless supply of zombies around the entrance to X16. So much that it's the only place in the game (apart from Prypiat and NPP) where I don't bother to gather all the weapons and goodies of the enemies I kill.
I hated the valves thing in Clear Sky. Not that it was particularly difficult, but it was monotonous and repetitive. Zombies just kept showing up on the same two or three spots, and the whole thing just looked like a shooting gallery.

By the way (and a bit off-topic): does anyone know if there is a mod, or some other way of making Skinflint (the Freedom trader) having infinite funds, just like every other trader in the game? It's just annoying to have to take all those great weapons I find in the Army Warehouses over to the Bar so that I can sell them.

What point of the game (SoC) are you at with all these zombies?
I'm not disputing the story or anything I just recall how the wildlife quotient (lets call it) changes after you hit the various plot points. I do (or did) most of my 'free play' after getting to the end of Pripyat and turning back.
I can't remember if that was when it went back to Controllers and zombies or if it was a bit quieter by that stage.
memory hazy, should play game again. How's that faction mod? Anybody tried it yet?

This is the 'normal' point, i.e., when I get there the first time. If I remember correctly, later on it's even worse. I remeber that once I accepted a mission from Lukash, which was to bring him a special suit, and that suit is on a dead soldier's corpse near the entrance to X16. So I had to go there a long time after the first time. When I got there it was hell on earth. Hordes of zombies, Snorks, Controllers, you name it. From that day onwards, I now bring that suit with me when I go there the first time. There's no way I want to go through that again.

I'm talking about Yantar, pre X16, patch 1.0004.
If you stay outside the factory, the zombie will come indefinitely and in quite large numbers, yes, they spawn there. But I found that after I entered the factory and cleared it out, they stopped to spawn there and instead had to walk to the factory from somewhere outside it, in considerably lesser numbers and infrequently too. The same concerned snorks.

Clear Sky is nice, but I honestly like Shadow of Chernobyl a lot more. That's why I'm currently replaying it (maybe for the 10th time or so).
After reading about Clear Sky, I haven't even bought it with disappointment. And I
loved Stalker. Great as it is, the original could have been so much better with just a few changes of direction on some design decisions, and I'd hoped CS would fix that. Instead, it sounds like it fixed some things, lost other things that didn't need to be lost and brought a whole load of fresh new problems with the new features.
The original really is great though. One of my favourite games, no doubt.
