I was pretty new to 1st person shooters when I first played SS2, so the AR didn't save my ass completely. :p

I was new to FPS games until I got addicted to AvP (1) :) Sadly enough, that took over a fair defree of my time for a while one that happened...

My very first experience with shooters was Quake shareware, then Quake 2 in 1998 and SS2 in 2000. Well, those are the highlights, I played other games in-between like Hexen 2.

Ah well, I started playing FPS's with Wolfenstein 3D, many years ago. Then Doom, then Duke 3D, then gave up for a long time, until Thief.
Oh well, reached deck 4, met Polito, yes, I know, but this is a no spoilers forum. Now I'm wacking away through deck 4- having a bit of trouble with the
cyborg assassins
, the bloody things are so damn quick. Have to spend some extra points on agility once I get my assault rilfe up and running. I've spent points to get to level 5 standard, so there's no going back now, I will get to level 6 and use the AR!

Good luck :)
I played loads of the "original" FPSsers but the incredible neausea put me off that very quickly. There's still some games that do it to me today - namely any with a blur effect.

I hate the assassins, you need to lure them to a corner and swing the melee weapon as many times as you can before they see you. If you are quick enough (and lucky) you should be able to swing 4 - 5 times.

I always tended to shoot the assassins. You can take them down in a few AP shots, or a few more shotgun shots.
Remember to modify your weapons :)

It takes more than just a few AP rounds, if you are using the pistol that is.

A reasonable, though tricky, strategy for dealing with the deck 4 assassins is to chase them with a melee weapon after you shoot up with a speed hypo. The three assassins on this deck will initially try and fall back to flee points, so you can generally get in a few wacks before they turn and face you. This is particularly effective coupled with adrenalin overproduction.

Also try to get a powerful shot at them from a distance first, then quickly use a speed hypo and run after them. If you shot wisely, maybe it spared you one swing with the melee weapon. :sly:
