I think the way we discuss on community chat has changed significantly. Nowadays it is four to five broadly themed threads that linger at the top and are used as The politics thread, The music video thread, etc.
Considering how little action they receive even this broad separation seems contrived. And I think we would be better off with a single channel.
This might help with some people's reluctance to post, since they wouldn't have to find a thread where their idea fits in or *gasp* start a new thread??
Instead it would be a stream of updates from our community where everyone can throw anything at the wall with impunity.
Now I know this probably won't happen for technical reasons as well as tradition, but I really think this would help, so I wanted to put it up here and see what you think.

I think the last thing we need is the politics threads leaking into anything else.

I understand what you mean of course, but if it was interspersed with some lighter food it might take the edge off. And it would be easier to switch to other subjects altogether.
The way it is now there will always be one side that has another point to make and the other side will always feel compelled to react to it.

I don't know, that could be just addressing the symptoms. While the forums generally have a decent number of visitors at any one time, the vast majority seem to be guest users that could be any combination of unregistered faces, users not logged in, and/or bots. There's an inherent dormancy that the forums (apart from the Thief-related ones) are unable to shake off for whatever reason, and that's even happened on the TTLG facebook group that has no need of forum-like threads.
Maybe we're all too edgy, or something.

Or not that edgy anymore.

It is strange how the forum seems to get a decent amount of traffic, yet only a modest amount of activity. I believe it's all due to the fact that TTLG is now a hang out zone for a bunch of people. They go in, peruse the threads, see what everyone's saying, but don't contribute themselves, since they're only here to enjoy the ambiance.
TTLG has become more like your den at home, a place you kick your feet up, rather than a bar where you mix it up with your friends.

It's not just a forum issue. I do lurk and rarely post in some other forums, and there's a reason I do so: the people who post in those forums post a lot of great information. In those forums I've been able to find things like a great networking guide that a member wrote up ( good enough that it even included some tips we didn't learn in business school), travel guides for different cities/countries that people have traveled to, an investing thread with discussions bout potential stock picks, links to local-language news articles about events that go completely unreported here in the US that I would otherwise have missed, a massive cryptocurrency guide, a Q&A group for small business/side hustle questions, and some style guides for men.
The lack of that value added is the problem you guys have. The highest value add is usually to be found down in the game sub-forums where people are providing each other useful design/level feedback. It's useful to hear some of those opinions because I've found that, for whatever odd reason, TTLG is a great barometer for mainstream urban opinions but it's been awhile since I've seen anyone here post with the express intent of giving and sharing useful knowledge in any forum higher at Gen-Gaming or higher.
