Just a thought on the game... - by ~s:a:n:i:t:y~

Crolling through various and numerous caves, picking locks on antique chests, fighting with imps, trolls and goblins, travelling marvellous meadows and dense forests, I couldn't have not noticed the resemblance to a world once invented by Sir-Most-Talanted-Storyteller :)
Maybe this was already marked here at TTLG, but since I don't seem to be able to find it, I'll make this a thread dedicated to The Rings, for the similarity is so obvious I just can't stop thinking that creators of The Elder Scrolls were just very hooked on Tolkien's tales...
This thought occurs every time I find magic rings :) So, with that joyful thought I continue my way, pressing keys and murmuring:
"Three rings for the Elven kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarven lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie."
BTW, Oblivion has its effect on me already - now whenever I get to reading Fellowship of the Ring, the images begin to have a strange graphical touch :)

I think most modern fantasy stuff has been influenced by Tolkien to a greater or lesser degree. I think in Oblivion's case, whilst it has the usual stock of goblins etc, the back story is sufficiently different to distinguish it.

Of course the story is different. It has to be not to crime against copyrights.:) I'm speaking more of environment influence :)
P.S. Ok, so I just didn't play most of those fantasy stuff! Kill me :p

I felt like Morrowind really was IT spot on! The only thing missing was the story. I really wanted someone to make a LOTR game using the Morrowind engine. In fact fans tried and got shut down. Sad, because they would do a much better job than EA (Who I think owns licenses to all gaming things LOTR).
As for Oblivion, I find it funny that they added a big tower in the middle that resembles something familiar :)
