£300 on a 20" is definitely too much though, so I'll have to rule out the 20WGX2pro.
The xx07s are from two years ago; I bought mine in Summer 2006.

Which is why you can get a Dell 2007WFP for £160 now :cheeky: and that will be far better than the 2208wfp.

Okay well this is pretty annoying. Picture quality is important yeah but I want a size upgrade too to make this worthwhile, which was why I was set on 22". Otherwise I may as well stick with my Dell 1905FP - widescreen sounds fun but not enough to spend £££ on something that's more or less the same size at different proportions.

For your needs, a TN panel monitor would be perfectly fine. I'm running a Samsung 226BW 22" (which has a TN panel) and it's looks great, IMO. A big step up from the low res CRT that I had prior. Just ignore Bikerdude's advice this one time. You can always upgrade down the road to something better.
P.S. Dell's aren't worth bothering with for sizes below 24".

Your current Monitor is a PVA based unit aswell, with a response time of 20ms and a max res of 1280*1024 - here is a breakdown of panel types - (
http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=201073). And here was a review of your current monitor -http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2332&p=4. PVA panels seem to be a compromise between the TH and IPS panels - ie. ok response with good blacks (not a bad monitor for thief)
The dell 2007wfp is S-IPS(better viewing angles), with a responce time of 5ms and a max res of 1680*1050 (2 steps up from the 1905), and the back light bleed should be better than the 1905. I think the 2007wfp will be a marginally better monitor, and if you live in the UK, you can buy it under the 7 day distance selling act (so you can send it back for a full refund if you dont want/like it.)

BTW The factory default picture settings for TFT monitors are always garbage, they have to be adjusted to custom variables.

Hey biker, not meaning to be an arse here as you've provided lots of really useful info (I wasn't even aware of the different panel types before). But just to repeat: <i>I want a size upgrade</i>.
Incidentally people say TN screens have reduced viewing angles? The cheapo 22" screen behind me in the office looks fine from any angle, although that's just windows desktop stuff. I gather the problem is more noticeable in gaming\video?

yeah the angle issue is more noticable in games etc, well if you have your heart set on a 22" then look for PVA, M-PVA or S-PVA, try and avoid TN.
