Alright, let me start from the beginning. Every time I try to join the thieves guild, they tell me, "We have standards, Dark Elf, and you do not meet them." I don't understand why, though, because I could join the guild earlier in the game. Is there anything I can do to be able to join???

Hmm... have you been to jail, or otherwise lost stats? Have you followed large number of Fighters' Guild quests given by the Vivec or Balmora branches of the FG? Either of those can do this to you, from what I hear.
Edit: Also, please don't post on both boards; most of us read both.
