(Cool. Now that you mention it, you might be able to interpret this as an unwitting caricature of at least some parts of stoic philosophy. I'm actually doing a paper on Voltaire and the problem of evil, I think I can use this somehow :)

Though the whole thing seems very sensationalist, I guess that journalist is performing a worthwhile service. He's appealing first to our very strong sense of patriotism, and also to more moderate Christian beliefs, in an attempt to really force people to examine the phenomena of zealotry and gay bashing, by showing us their logical conclusion, which it seems is pretty ugly. Usually, when media tries to do this, it winds up actually offending people on both counts.

Believe what you want but to picket at a funeral is about as tasteless as you can get. If you want to change hearts and minds acting like a jackass in public ain't the way to go about it. I'm surprised that woman hasn't been shot by now. I also can't help but think the reason she has so many children was calculated move. How else could you get that many people to go along with such obvious twattery?
As far as following the "word of God." ....Hummm. I always thought that God hated the sin but still loved the sinner. So where does "God hates dead soldiers" fit into things?
Their agenda seems more political than religious.
