That picture you get from what's his face in the underworld bar showing Greene with some Mj12 bootlickers really is no evidence whatsoever of his complictity in spying. All you see is him standing with a MiB and some MJ12 goons. They could easily just be questioning him like they most likely did everyone else in the 'kitchen. When you talk to him and press him on the issue he does say "Ha, you've got me!' and runs off into the bathroom at the clinic. A swipe of the dragon's tooth later, and the ugly little quest is over. However with no positive feedback (a message of 'Good Work!' or at least some Skill points would let me know I did 'right')
Any opinions?

Interesting point. Never really thought about it before, but I suppose because he runs off, he must be accepting guilt. But then again, you've got a big blue sword in his face... ;)
Not sure. I'd say he was as spy though - he was always a bit dodgy.
I think there are quite a few parts of DE that were left open for you to decide yourself, and this is just one of them. It's your choice really.

That part always bothered me too. The picture didn't seem like very good proof to me and he won't "confess" unless you outright accuse him. No matter which path I take I end up feeling like a jerk. :(

I NEVER trusted that Harley Filben, so when he asked me to kill Joe Greene, I knew there was something there for him. That photo was pure rubbish and I would not kill Joe Greene based on that photo. However there is one other evidence against Joe Greene, which I cannot recall at the moment. That was what made me verify that he was indeed a spy. I remembered how clever that was. Informants would go to him because he was so outspoken about being anti-unatco etc and instead they will meet their doom.

I've killed JG, and let him go, and have never noticed any difference in the storyline afterwards. I'm glad to see others agree that the photo amounts to squat. I've never liked Filben either. He never really does anything useful. The back way into the statue is better than his key,
and the code for the elevator to the mole people can be gotten from the bum around the fire in the battery park shanty town
. And now we're supposed to trust him about Greene after barely any association.

The best way into the statue is through the front door - but you don't need his key for
that anyway.
Back to Joe Greene - the newspaper litter you find all over the NY scenes often contains
an article written by Joe Greene. These articles are consistent with the premise that he
is a spy.
But the most incriminating evidence, IMHO, is what happens if you talk to him the first
time you meet.
BTW - how do you make those spoiler blocks?

The newspaper articles by Joe Greene questions the motives of UNATCO. According to his articles you would think he is anti-UNATCO, and therefore not a spy. In he is not divulging anything, which an observant person could not have noticed himself. His position as an anti-UNATCO reporter is a ploy to attract other anti-UNATCO sympathisers from whom he would spy about for MJ12.
I cannot remember if there was an MJ12/UNATCO email concerning him (verifying he is working for them) but I do recall another incident, which made me suspect he was a spy for UNATCO. After JC speaks Greene extensively the first time round, Joseph Manderley will remind JC not to speak to reporters. The question arises as to how Manderley knew about this. The two possible explanations would be that JC's actions were monitored and reported by undercover UNATCO agent(s), or else Greene himself told Manderley of their conversation.
A more convincing incident occurs when JC mentions Stanton Dowd to Greene at the Free Clinic. An undercover MJ12 agent will be enter Hell's Kitchen and follow you to terminate Dowd. If JC does not mention Dowd to Greene, this agent will not appear. The same happens occurs when JC mentions Dowd to Jordan Shea, except she was threatened and coerced into reporting his activities. She subtle warned JC about this by mentioning her contact with Gunther Hermann earlier.
By the way to make the spoilers, just use the spoiler tags.

How did Manderley know? Remember that everything you do is extensively remotely monitored by UNATCO. That's what Alex is for.
Fred Chook on 28/4/2002 at 09:41
Yeah, but Alex covers up for JC against Manderly's wishes. Presumably even for small things like talking to the press. And Greene hardly denies it if you accuse him.
