Just in case anyone's still wondering: there is absolutely no gameplay difference whatsoever between the different skintones. None.
The only difference is the texture used for you and Paul (even the models are the same).
As far as I'm aware, there never has been any actual coded difference, patched or not.
So I'd say urban myth.

I appreciate your input, but do you have any evidence for this? I believe you, it seems ludicrous to suggest that there are differences, but there seem to be about 5 different reports in this thread alone (counting stupid racist ones too)
