I'm having a bloody hard time finding somebody who speaks japanese to sorta practice with. I decided at the beginning of the year to learn it and i'm still noob but I can say some simple stuff. I feel with a bit of training I could be fluent enough to get by on simple convo and it shouldn't take too long. So if anybody out there is either japanese or knows some and is up for some casual no-strings-attached conversation, whenever, let me know.

I think it's gonna be a long, long time.

I'm fluent in Japanese, but I'm only looking for a long-term committed conversation at the moment.

I'm actually learning Japanese this year to fulfill an LOE requirement, but it'll be several months before I'll be able to approach any conversation more advanced than "what is your major, what is your name, where are you from" etc.

I thought this was going to be a 'nigga please'-type thing.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you how disappointed I was.

...but I'm going to be critical.
What exactly is the point of learning a language if you don't know anyone who speaks it? Language was necessitated by the need to communicate with others, so unless you seriously plan on using it (by serious I mean doing international business with people who speak the language, or living in the country where people speak the language), why waste all that effort?
Also, as a general statement, I've found that Japanese has become one of these fad languages that people want to learn, but whose use is rather limited. Even in a diverse area like where I live, the Japanese population isn't substantial enough to justify all the effort, and even if you did learn it, all the young Japanese folks who are here all know English, mainly because most of them were born here in the States.
Spanish, on the other hand, is most certainly useful in the United States, and it will become even more so as time goes on.
Just sayin'.
