So, I just the movie today.
Should have been marketed as...
Avatar, starring Evil Army Guy, Evil Corporate Guy, Native Chief, Chief's Daughter, Chief's Heir, Outsider Who Becomes One With The Tribe, and Sigourney Weaver. I honestly can't remember any of the names. Except for Jakesully.
If this were a video game, TTLG would have spent at least a dozen pages deriding it as a "Shallow tech demo."
Overall, it was worth watching, for the special effects.
One comment about 3D - it really fucks with my brain - but only in scenes that were not fully CG. Since a film camera can only focus on one distance... You end up with about half the scene in focus, and half out - it's fine for a 2D movie, but in a 3D image, where your eyes don't always try to focus on what the director wants to be the focus of the shot... You end up staring at blurry objects, just because your brain thinks they are closer to you.
I really can't see this problem being overcome in future 3D films - unless they are fully CG.

Pretty disappointed.
Well, not really. Expected it to be this meh.
I guess I'm just disappointed by the attention it's getting. It takes the approach of CRY DAMNIT CRY, locking subtlety away in a closet somewhere to be forgotten and to die of starvation.
I just don't get how everyone watches Transformers 2, complains about it's shallow plot, then goes apeshit over Avatar. People! It's the same fucking thing.

The shallow plot of the Transformers films is the least of their sins, which is why your comparison holds no water. Avatar doesn't go very deep but it more or less nails that surface.

Well I was thinking about it and I take back one thing, Avatar did have a better sense of pacing than Transformers 2.

James Cameron knows how to direct these sorts of movies. Michael Bay does not.

I watched True Lies tonight (the "other" James Cameron good film) and by deuce is it a fun lark. Gets extremely silly in the final quarter but as a contrast to Avatar it was refreshing to watch a silly film like that.
But Jamie Lee Curtis wins me over.

You know she's genetically a man, right?
Figures.

She's a lot hotter in that picture than, well, basically any time I've ever seen her ever.

Then you've never see True Lies. ;)
