First of all I don't think its racist towards humans, secondly how ridiculous is the whole idea? Parallels blah blah come on its about sexy blue aliens ffs.

Most of the criticisms I've heard are valid. I personally went for the dances with wolves with aliens, my friend thought fern gully in space. We both thought regardless that it was still a great movie.
Yeah, predictable. Yeah, racist. But fuck it, it was 2.5+ hours and I wasn't even bored, even though I knew how it would end. Take off your beret, chill the fuck out and watch it. For people who talk about Indy 4 being a "popcorn flick", you can just stfu seriously (Im looking at you scots). If you can see that steaming shitpile, you can watch this.
I cant believe the deal you people are making of it, its a decent story with incredible effects.

*reads a reasonable and rigorous argument which cross references instances of similar forms of representation in a number of cultural texts*
*this argument is made in a tradition of criticism and analysis; it is a tradition that is at the very basis of the kind of knowledge making such texts possible in the first place*
*somehow claims to know more about the possibility of cultural connotation within texts than someone who has made said clearly-evidenced argument within aforementioned critical tradition*
*expresses this devastatingly imbecilic opinion in an anti-intellectual kneejerk*
IT'S JUST A STORY GUYS GOD DAMN WORDS AND IMAGES AND NARRATIVES ONLY HAVE ONE MEANING YOU KNOW
ASK ME ABOUT BEING UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE VERY BASICS OF CONNOTATION OUTSIDE OF THE APPARENT INTENDED MEANING

I'd not read that io9 piece when I last posted. I have now. It's interesting, especially in its reference to District 9. It contains a glaring error though; Jake cannot go back. His human/white body dies and he, unlike Wikus, chooses this.
Apart from that okay, okay its kind of fair enough. But to be honest you can extrapolate so much from anything. The girl I went with said exactly the same thing though, that it was just like Karate Kid or Last Samurai and so on and her specific beef wasn't that Jake became a Na'vi, but that he became the leader. In addition she especially hated the way he was the one to tame the Last Shadow.
At this point I was just thinking about how I was going to get her naked and painted blue tbh, but you know, you guys just discuss the plot instead mmmk.
PS. Has anyone else seen the trailer for the new Karate Kid? Oh my it twists this concept on its head but good

I was just wondering about all the Avatar hate lately and thought about other things that most pseudo intellectual types don't seem to mind; confectionery.
Chocolate bars, be it Wispa, Caramel or *drools* DoubleDecker....even your crappy American stuff. It's the most massed produced, reducing in quality and increasing in price, chocolatey goodness. Yet few people whine because who cares, its chocolate.
It's a damn film, the purpose of which is to entertain. If you find some life changing experience while viewing it then good for you. If you're tired of seeing the same story, well so am I, but I can still enjoy it when its told well.
While I'm not one to defend the likes of Bay, Bruckheimer movies, I've found that insulting those who do is really kind of dumb.
