On the note of the cars, I have to admit I lol'd at him speeding down the road with the soundtrack blaring, in what turns out to be a Ford Focus (I think it was a Ford Focus. If it wasn't, I guess the OMG PRODUCT PLACEMENT failed. Darn.)
Anyway, great, great Bond movie. I'm going to go out on a limb and put it higher than Goldeneye only because my memories of Goldeneye are too hazy, and I think most of the good memories came from the game anyway...
In an attempt to make Casino Royale the best of something, I'll say it's the best Bond movie without "Gold" in the title :erm:
And sure, it seemed a half hour too long, but goddammit when all the action started up near the end, it was frankly awesome. And the final scene/line was good in a way that makes you guilty for enjoying it so much :p

It's the new Ford Mondeo.

I did too. Speaking about funny product placement, I still get a kick out of the fact that MI6 turns to google in a crisis. :p
Now that I've given it a few days, I would have to say this is, at least, in my top 5 favorite Bond movies. Personally, I've always liked Connery's Bond when he's a gadgetless, brutal bastard, which is probably why I liked the movie so much.

From Russia with Love FTW!
Also, loved this Casino Royale, so I'll just add to the "See this movie now!" chorus...

Just got back from the movie. The verdict is Casino Royale was... ok. Not nearly as good as I was hoping. Not nearly as bad as some of the recent ones were. I thought the chase scene on foot, if you've seen it you know what I mean, was pretty good but smacked of cgi/wire-fu in places.
Also, I had a lot of trouble relating to anyone in the movie. I don't really know that based on this movie I would ever say Craig was a good actor. He's got a look, sure. But I never once felt anything Bond might have been feeling. Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm so jaded and cynical about movies that I can't just relax and enjoy anymore. But I know one thing:
Sean Connery is James Bond.
Just to be clear, on its own I enjoyed the movie. It was mindless popcorn entertainment which was probably all it set out to be. But stacking it next to Sean Connery's, or even Roger Moore's Bond? Meh.
Personally, I think if you want to revitalize Bond you have to strip away a lot of the glitz. Make the action believable. No big explosions, no wire-fu, no cgi, no insane stunts (or at least much more realistic insane stunts), just a few more contusions, limps, hospital visits, that kind of thing. When James gets kidney punched, make him wince when he has to change his jacket or reach inside it or something. Show him unable to chase down that rocketing sports car on foot because at the beginning of the film the guy dislocated his knee. That kind of thing. Add a bit of tension fer cryin out loud. I think to sell the gimmicks you have to first establish the reality. I dont know that I have seen anyone really bother to do that for a while now.
Judi Dench rocks, btw. Best actor in the whole damn film by a country mile.

But I don't thing there was wire or cgi in that scene. Wasn't that the point?

Bit late to the game, but I have to agree with the majority that this was a very solid Bond movie, certainly one of the better ones to be produced, and while it's only been one movie, Daniel Craig has made a tremendous impression in the role.
Also, I can't resist the urge to say that anyone who willingly goes to see a movie about a famed assassin for the British government and then complains about the violence needs to get fucked.

As much as people overlook it, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" might be the best of all Bond films (w/o Connery, Dr. No's still a classic in my opinion). If you don't believe me, watch it and say it isn't well made, well acted, and a good movie.

When I heard the first reviews so many were ready to predict a huge bomb, even before seeing it. I saw it last night in a packed theatre. Pretty awesome.I've seen a few Bond movies and it's hard to compare films from other eras but I'm thinking this one is pretty much the best of the series. The first action scene was maybe the best. Just maybe a bit too much poker.
I liked Craig. He is brutal and he bleeds. When he gets pissed off he actually looks like he is capable of killing someone. They should have replaced Brosnan a long time ago! But shtill noone will ever replace Connery.
