What's wrong with having respect to human labor and celebrate women's contributions to the well-being of the mankind ?
A lot of things. Not all human labor has been done to better humankind, and not all women have contributed to the well-being of humanity.
We have specific holidays for specific people and specific actions because we can point to these times in history and say that it has had a demonstrable impact on other people. The Fourth of July, MLK Jr. Day, Bastille Day, Cinco De Mayo, are all examples of these.
If this holiday was intended to celebrate specific people for doing certain things, like peacefully working for equalization of working conditions for women (have a Human Rights Advocate's Day), then that's one thing.
If that was the point, then it's clearly been lost, as is demonstrated by reading just about all the posts in this thread, which in one way or another celebrate people who have been born with a vagina for not being born with a penis. That's retarded, and it does nothing but play into unhealthy stereotypes that women (as a class) are more intelligent, wise, and/or virtuous than men.

FWIW, I'm with aguy on this one, although had he not spoken up already I wouldn't have pissed on anyone's chips over it. This would be the most sucky excuse for a thread ever, if not for the OP's even more toe-curlingly embarrassing "Who are the hawtest women of TTLG?" effort.

Applying this logic, one can argue that The Fourth of July and Bastille Day has brought death to many unaccounted good and innocent people, but you don't doubt these events meant a significat progress for the society. In fact, these events meant destruction of certain system, as opposed to celebrations of human labor - construction. I really don't how what is worse or better - a celebration of human labor, a symbol of construction, cooperation and progress in general, or remembernce day of some destructive events.

That's rather ridiculous arguing what was first, and egg or a chicken (or what is more important, a penis or a vagina). You understand that females were in many aspects not equal to men in the past? This holiday remembers women's efforts for emancipation in the society. WHY NOT. You know there is International Men's Day on November 19th, so it's a fair deal. Do you have impression that IW's Day humilates you as a penis owner? If yes, why? I thought you are an emancipated guy without complexes.
I think Homer Simpson should have a holiday, do you mind?

It wasn't.

Nope, that wasn't it either.

It's merely a celebration of women in general, you dolt. Though I'm sure that it was probably invented by the greeting card/florist/jeweler/candy industries, it's the sentiment that counts.
And how in the hell can you possibly interpret IW Day as a slight to your penis?
Btw; what
do you have against vaginas, anyhow? :weird:

This would be a good time to end the thread.
Both guys and women have contributed to the world, and it is stupid to celebrate one group of people but exclude the other when they have both contributed a lot.
Guys and girls are all people, saying that one is better, more praiseworthy, or superior to the other is the very essence of sexism. It also insinuates that women are somehow in need of special treatment, which is very degrading.
Wanna celebrate humanity? Be my guest! (I don't know why you'd want to, but if it turns you on...)
I mean come on, it's like celebrating people who wear black shirts and pink boxers! People are people, who cares! (It's not like your picking a mate here!)
Let's just all calm down and get on with it. :D
EDIT: Oh yeah, and forget about private parts!

Wait......wrong. You cannot forget about it. You need the private parts in order to *get on with it.*
