A petition won't sway them at all. We all know how the SR one turned out. The only hope I see at this point is that after the game is released, if it sells poorly then
maybe - and it's a
big maybe - they'll realize that there's these people called 'fans' whom they are alienating, and may release some kind of patch or 2nd edition of the game without all the crap and maybe even a SR sound pack. It's a big stretch, but I don't see anything else that would work. Hence why I hope it ends up being a failure in sales. Maybe then they'll listen.
I wasn't really being entirely serious. I was just jokingly stating that we should have done something like that to express how abysmal this game has become.

As fans, it's a bit painful to see the Thief name stuck to a game which is built upon paradigms which are so different from the games that we love. But there's still a chance the new game might be enjoyable for other people (I doubt very much it will be for any of us) who will then be introduced to the original games, so the better option is to let it be. Petitioning to change one aspect of it will not prevent any of the other terrible systems from being implemented. It's too far gone now.
Our role, if there needs to be one, will be if the game flops. To rationally and calmly explain what was stripped away from the original games which made them so good and unique. To show everyone, through well-constructed posts and articles that the game failed not because there was no interest for it and no one gave it a chance, but because huge mistakes were made during its development. We're not there yet.

Actually, I don't buy this as a design decision.
I think it's a result of the engine tech, just like the lack of rope arrows in TDS.
This is all a smokescreen because they've found glitches when you can roam free - they are making excuses because they are stuck in this situation. It's a top-down blunder and they have to kowtow to the man by coming out with this nonsense.

so it's a design decision then unless you mean "engine glitches" which is nonsense

Do you choose something that you are forced to do?
Briareos H on 11/8/2013 at 12:40
buying the unreal engine from epic doesn't force you to disallow free exploration in your game
also it's not like Dishonored has a jump button or something

Yeah, think about it a bit more.

For the love of God, they had 4 years of development and they still haven't mastered the engine? I pity them, seriously

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic
