Here is a copy of ZBs link, that you can read, you know, with your eyes or whatever... ;)
You're so quick to try and one-up me that you haven't even thought it through.
Take those definitions and plug any of them into Emse's post:

You people. Honestly. It's so ridiculous now it's become a bad parody of a crappy caricature.

EM has made its unsavory choice...and now, unsurprisingly, most in the community are choosing not to like that.
Oh, I hear you. I'm still trying to get some sense out of them over at Eidos forums in the contextual movement thread.
Thirith on 29/8/2013 at 09:45
Sorry, SubjEff, but you're being ridiculous here IMO. From the context, it was clear that the first few meanings weren't the ones that were intended (she follows up with other examples of sweets) - and the intended meaning was available on the list of definitions ZB linked to while ridiculing the original post (and Goldmoon Dawn quoted). Whether you have issues with the aggressively anti-Thief brigade or not, this is a case of you and ZylonBane jumping at people because of sloppy reading.
There's plenty to criticise and ridicule, but if you take issue with this particular thing - "Humbuggate", so to speak - you come off like the kind of poster you usually criticise: the guy who lashes out because they didn't read or think properly and who can't admit afterwards that they may have been wrong.

Really ?
Are we so desperate to get rid of any criticism of the latest Thief that we resort to ridiculing the semantics of an analogy in order to bury it ?
Well tough it's here again, with clarifications for the hard of comprehension

In the original 3 games - I want a humbug†‡, I'm given a humbug†‡.
This game - I want a humbug†‡, I'm given a lemon drop‡, caramel‡, peanut brittle‡, box of raisins‡ or a humbug†‡ depending on what I'm doing, where I'm looking or where I'm standing at the time.
And if I complain that I didn't get the humbug†‡ I asked for and also paid for, someone tells me I'm getting a sweet‡, it may not be exactly the sweet‡ I thought I wanted, but it's still a sweet‡ and further I'm not going to notice the difference in the sweet‡ I wanted and the sweet‡ I got because they've carefully engineered all possible situations so that I won't actually want a humbug†‡ but will want whatever sweet‡ they give me.
I still want a humbug†‡ and I don't want someone telling me that it's not required in this context or that I won't notice the difference between what I want and what I get because they've been ever so clever.
I can't wait for McDonalds• to adopt this strategy, "Big Mac‡ please", "Certainly mam, here's your Filet-O-Fish‡ and a long condescending ramble about how your not going to notice the difference and won't even miss the Big Mac‡ because in this context it's not necessary, have a nice day"
† - all references to 'humbug' mean (
http://www.handycandy.co.uk/mint-humbugs-p-69.html) these sweets
‡ - Any and all references to sweets or foodstuffs are to be taken as an analogy for some in game action, the intention being to demonstrate that not getting what you ask for is unsatisfactory, if anyone requires further explanation than this then get used to disappointment because there won't be any.
• - McDonalds are an excellent company and much too sensible to actually do anything like this, as they know that though this seems to be a standard practice in the videogame industry it would be marketing suicide if it actually happened in their excellent food outlets.

Okidoki, I'll do that very thing.

3. (Cookery) Brit a hard boiled sweet, usually flavoured with peppermint and often having a striped pattern...
There's a definition, taken from the link provided by ZB and helpfully highlighted by Goldmoon Dawn, thanks for that GD :thumb:
So plugging in, bear with me this bit is somewhat technical

Well actually no, looking at it with the plugging in and everything I'd say you're wrong there
And the derisory comment with the :laff::laff: attached is uncalled for.

Oh, I knew what you meant - that you were getting something that wasn't what you asked for...
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
So you
did actually understand, I see,
You just chose to appear as if you didn't for some reason, shits n giggles perhaps, with no indication that this was a light hearted, not to be taken seriously, just joshing with you folks type post ?
So your posts may or may not mean what they say and there is no indication as to which condition is true.
Well I'll certainly take that into account when I read your future posts.
As no doubt, will everyone else.

Can we just let it die and get back to bashing Thief again?

Like bashing a fly, right?

I understood, I just thought it was a silly way to put it. And the point with humbug was that although it happens to be the name of sweet the usual use of the word is different.
By all means, go back to bashing Thief. I'll just be watching and smiling.
Renault on 29/8/2013 at 16:50
I was really just joking - there's not much reason to bash/criticize/critique anymore - the game will be out in less than 6 months and isn't going to change at this point.
SubJeff on 29/8/2013 at 17:32
Oh come on! They'll have some more info for us to jump all over and rubbish later this year.
There will be a character called Jumali or Cuthbret or Lady Fanafanaboo or something for us to make hilArious jokes about.
