Sequelitis: assuming target audience is dumb in a game's modern sequel
Honestly I used to ignore people's negative opinions here but THIS? I don't have the words or even the patience to describe it... THEY HAVE GONE TOO FAR !
Vertical platforming and jumping around was one of my favorite things to do in Thief (and TDM)
When I compare nuThief with Deadly Shadows, TDS definitely makes my d..k rock hard
No way I'm buying this game, at least not an original copy. I'll stock with an second-hand from Gamestop.

I think mr.Schmidt got it the other way around. The fact that you were constantly controlling your character was part of immersion. But really who cares? Because they don't :bored:

If lead designer is being honest they clearly dont know what the word immersion means, this proves it.
If lead designer is lying, it is clear that the engine is so buggy that this is the only way they can get jumping to work.
You pick.

My guess is this came out of focus testing because players kept inadvertantly alerting guards because of the run-and-jump culture in gaming. My other guess, or at least hope (if that's the right word) is that some devs were conflicted about it too.
BTW, is this basically the same news we knew before that actions around objects are context sensitive, like beam-lock, parkour courses, and mantling? This article may just be highlighting it as an issue in a way others glided over.
I'll agree any 'blame' belongs to the contemp gaming culture first.

Jumping can be used to lure a guard away from his post, and when he calms down and goes back, you have a chance to knock him out, or you can just sneak past while he's still searching. It saves using a noisemaker, or any other item. Rather than breaking immersion, it is a part of it. And in Thiaf, we can't do it. :tsktsk:
A lot of this negativity would have been avoided if EM had just started a new series. No reasonable person hates Assassins Creed or Dishonoured for not adhering to the spirit of Thief, because they are not a part of the Thief series.

At this point, we should start petitioning Eidos to halt the development of this impending catastrophe.

Welcome to the dark side. Just relax and grab a seat in the back row. We have cookies and popcorn.

And with this recent news, my chances of even renting the Thief reboot have drastically decreased to the point, that I'd much prefer watching the entire game unfold on YouTube, instead of actually playing it.
If I may offer a suggestion, there's an excellent show that will most likely cover this game -- it's called (
http://www.shamusyoung.com/spoilerwarning/) Spoiler Warning and it's pretty entertaining as well as critical of the games they play.

A petition won't sway them at all. We all know how the SR one turned out. The only hope I see at this point is that after the game is released, if it sells poorly then
maybe - and it's a
big maybe - they'll realize that there's these people called 'fans' whom they are alienating, and may release some kind of patch or 2nd edition of the game without all the crap and maybe even a SR sound pack. It's a big stretch, but I don't see anything else that would work. Hence why I hope it ends up being a failure in sales. Maybe then they'll listen.

Yes. There is nothing new to learn here, so if people are changing their opinions on the game because of this, then they haven't been following.

At least more people know about it.
