That's right... BOOBS. If you don't have them yourself, you know somebody who does (maybe even your mother). Boobs are important things, I think we can all agree on that, right? We love boobs, okay.
Listen up, now, because here's your chance to do a Very Good Thing™ for boobs.
I've just registered to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. On July 8-9, I'll spend two days walking, along with thousands of other people, for 39 miles in San Francisco, CA. This is a HUGE challenge for me, but it's one I'm really jazzed about. Not only will it enable me to push myself further than ever before, but because I know it will make a real difference to the millions of people affected by breast cancer.
The money I raise from this event goes to the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, whose mission is to provide access to care and to work toward finding a cure. They provide funding to organizations all over the country in five areas: medical research, clinical care, support services, educational and advocacy seminars, and community-based, non-profit early detection breast health programs.
Now, here's the part where I ask for money :)
I'm required to raise at least $1,800 in donations to participate in the walk, and I've never done this sort of thing before, so that $1,800 is my initial fundraising goal (one I'd be thrilled to increase). Please help to support me in my goal (I *really* want to do this), and (more importantly) the breast cancer cause in theirs by making a contribution to my efforts.
It's easy...
You can make a donation for any amount (in any currency) online by visiting (
http://info.avonfoundation.org/site/TR?px=2611432&pg=personal&fr_id=1190&s_tafId=55222)
my personal Avon Walk page. You'll see a few familiar names have already been there (OMG SO AWESOME!)
Or, if you prefer to write a check, or money order, or even send cash... Just let me know. I'll be happy to send you the information and form, or we can make arrangements.
I'll leave you with one final thought: In less than the time it took to read this post, another woman in the U.S. was diagnosed with breast cancer.
With love, and many thanks for your support,
~Mara (MsLedd) Love <img src="/msledd/pinkribbon.gif">
UPDATE 5/4/06: * Less than 48 hours after I sent the first email, or posted this thread, I am only $70 away from my original (minimum) goal of $1,800.
* Of the $1,730.00 donated so far, almost 85% has come from TTLG members.
* You people ROCK!! :thumb:
I don't know the words to express how much I appreciate all this incredible support. I may just have to show you my boobs afterall ;)
UPDATE 5/5/06 (now, it's personal): I've added another "virtual walker" to my crusade. An incredible lady, who is celebrating her one-year anniversary as a breast cancer survivor (you GO girl!) and... she's one of us! I'm proud to call my personal challenge:

HRAY BOOBS! Now there's a cause I can get between. Behind. Something.
Good luck with this, I know it's a very big deal for you. Starr and I will wait at the finish line with tequila and chocolate. \o/

Well, damn, Mara, you got me to part with 40 greenbacks. Not a huge amount I know, but I'm a habitual miser. It's actually money I got from my grandparents for my birthday (yes I'm nearly 30 and still get birthday money) so perhaps you should thank them...

PLEASE, WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE BOOBS?
Money en route!

I donated, but Mara, I expect to see boobs out of this action.
Also, is your second name seriously Love?
That's amazing, not only because it's an unusual name but it's also in my family.

Good luck :D

Done, with pleasure. My grandmother died from breast cancer and a (non-smoking) uncle died from lung cancer at 27. Good luck with the walk Mara. :thumb:

Spending money on boobs. It just feels so natural.
