hurrrr. Obviously when I wrote that I was trying to get across the message (using irony) that personal attacks should not be used against me and what I say, yet they frequently are.

Haha, Mark Steyn. Oh dear.
Speaking as a torygraph reader, I think he serves an important purpose writing for that paper. Namely, a reminder to british conservatives (Big C or small, probably) of what to try and avoid ending up like.

I think it's only fair that the original article substantiates things like ...
"The progressive agenda--lavish social welfare, abortion, secularism, multiculturalism--is collectively the real suicide bomb."... before anyone lolling at it has to make a counter argument. Otherwise it's like trying to fight fog with a sword.
Steyn could say his words were dictated to him by a small purple frog that only he can see - which is something I clearly could not disprove. There is a similar imbalance of proof in play here. You give the author a free ride from having to offer a factual basis to 80% of his writing, yet I have to find facts to disprove the parts which are unproveable? In that context, it seems perfectly reasonable for me to use my acquired knowledge of history, the way culture and society work and the last century of enlightened thinking to decry most of his waffle as pure hokum. That is the level of discourse we are at.
It's an anti-progressive rant with superficial nods to demography. Modernised nations having lower birthrates than sections of Africa shocker? What does this really tell us? Does it necessarily confirm the simplistic leaps in logic which Mr. Steyn is making? Maybe factoring birthrates into any predictions of the future is rather more complex than his reductionist hysteria would suggest. Just maybe.
The status quo in Western Europe will have changed by 2032? No shit Mark, glad you told me that. Of course, maybe changes will have occured in OTHER parts of the globe too. Gee willy whizz!
Anyway, since we're in the habit of using other people's words to do talking for us, I will offer this spiffy article - (

It isn't a direct response to Steyn's piece, but the overlap is fairly obvious when you get to the meat of it.

{edit for Chimpy} Fair point! I feel bad for the intellectual wing of conservative thought at the moment; only their ridiculously shrill counterparts ever get any publicity and linkage these days. {/edit}

Also personal attacks are a sign you are losing a debate Trev. Just thought I'd let you know in case you ever go to uni or whatever.
Err, no. tehing is: quite often the debate is clearly won, but you persist in being a dense, vindictive cunt regardless. Two things are happening, quite unrelated to each other. At some point, one needs to face up and note that both the debate is won
and you are being a dense, vindictive cunt. Sorry.

Crutch.
Weak minds.
If I went looking hard enough, I could find San Franciscians that were converting to the NRA and supporting state-wide concealed permits.
If I went looking, I could find Xenu cults that shave their heads and have their genitalia surgically removed.
If I went looking, I could find a majority of Democratics to respond to my presidential confidence poll.

Hi Convict.
Tell me again, what economic demographic those ebil muslims that are outbreeding us make up?
And then tell me how many kids the same economic non-muslim bracket is having?

Hey! I never said I agree with this sick guy I linked! I only say it is worth to read. While I disagree with him on most, he has some points.
What worries is e.g. that the republican states of the USA have a higher birthrate than the democratic ones.
Where I agree with the guy is this: when people come to live in your country, it doesn't matter what colour they have. But it does matter what kind of culture they want to live in. (not what culture they bring, but if they want to join yours or just change you into theirs. Missionaries should be shot.).
