The cousin marriage one mentioned inheritance. It makes me wonder a bit if our society's repulsion (rather than just acknowledgement of genetic risks) at such practices could have been as an old plot to raise nationalism. We don't really practice inheritance in the 'states (not inheritance of anything that is worth anything -- power, money -- land sometimes, though, but now we have that death tax -- perhaps another plot to weaken groups that are not the government). Instead, we're into disposability, and we rely on the government (thus giving it power) because of that.
But I suppose we could trust our close friends and relatives more, share things amongst ourselves, and beat the disposability problem without inbreeding.
