Yeah, I was laid up with a case of mebangy fever. Sorry. You never posted a play by play of your revelry anyway so it don't count. Besides, I'll never miss it again ever you bet. At least until this time next year.

a couple of recent songs I've recorded, not band recordings, everything's done by me. Chip Pan Fire has its origins in EastEnders, a soap opera here. Marriage Material is a frustrated pop ballad with intentional cheesy production. There's a couple of bum notes but I didn't want to over edit or autotune since they're only demos for my own amusement/practice. The Myspace quality is horrible, there's a massive loss of clarity. If anyone's interested I can upload higher bitrate mp3s somewhere else.

you know, no ones going to listen to this, especailly in an old birthday thread. For a long time time I have been considering a mega-thread, but a creative one where people can link to music, art, writing they have been working on to get opinions feedback etc. What do you think? Then it would be all centralized, people could work their way through stuff, all in the same thread.
For example I have loads of material, but as you say its 'bedroom bandit' stuff, that you make for personal amusement or to flesh out ideas, most of its pretty limited, so I would never consider posting stuff, except in a thread like I mentioned.

Is that you singing? not bad at all, far better than your old bands vocals why the hell werent you doing the vocals. I never envisaged you to have such a nice tenor. Well, I can see who did the bulk of the writing with your band cos I can really hear the same vibe here. Its good, a little predictable you can tell where the chords are gonna go and such, but good. The second song is the superior one for me, the 'cheesy' production as you call it actually works quite well, have you listened to a lot of art pop/rock at the moment? its full of cheese.
One negative (might not be for you) is both songs come across as a little dirge-like, not sure if thats what you were going for. Keep at it man definitely getting somewhere with your writing.

Cheers, Piglick. I realise it wasn't the best place to post them, but it's only two songs and this was the thread in which a couple of people asked after the band etc. Didn't feel it warranted its own thread really. When I've got more, perhaps.
And thanks - actually I agree, I think the dirge-like quality (although I don't think it's too bad) is due to the choice of tempo, particularly in Chip Pan Fire - it's too slow and I'm always pushing against it with the bass and singing. In fact, a couple of the choruses are well out but my voice was getting tired and those were the best in terms of the tone/tuning. What happens is that in my haste (most of the underlying guitar parts, or the bass track in the second one are first takes), I pick a tempo and stick with it, because it's a pain to have to start over, but it's not necessarily the right tempo. If I was just playing them acoustically with me and a guitar I'd modulate to the "natural" tempo. Also I think a drum part would help pep both of them up a bit. I might bang some pots and see what I can come up with.
The first one has a bit of Smiths in, a little Dire Straits Sultans of Swing even. The second actually started wanting to be a Luther Vandross song if you can believe it.

Why not? Threads aren't exactly an endangered resource around here.

I think Fingernail meant more that he didnt want to post some stuff that means a lot to him and see it die with 1 or 2 replies.
Fingernail on 18/3/2010 at 15:24
Well, it's not like that would ever happen!
Ahem.
But seriously, the main point being that when I make a thread it'll be for an EP, or an album or a live recording or something, and maybe there'll be a website or some artwork or whatever. This was just brief news from the frontline for those that had wondered what had happened.

but if we had a "Creative Works" mega thread you could post in that without worry! But are there that many people here these days still making music and such? I can think of a few offhand, but thats it. When was the last time Stitch picked up a microphone? Has the dream died!?

I'm still making music, I would post in your thread.
