Have you ever heard of the Playstation Now?

Christ.
PlayStation Now is not the same thing as Steam.

to which I respond with an example of video game streaming today to show it's not far away and now you think I'm saying Playstation Now = Steam. Are we even speaking the same *&^+$#? language?

That's stupid, and you're being irrational. I have physical copies of several PC games dating back to as recent as last Christmas and I don't feel any more special towards them now than I did when I bought them. The exceptions are my collector's editions.
Physical media is dead, and I say good riddance.
It's neither stupid, nor am I irrational. I put my family first and anything else can come later. How I personally choose to invest my hard earned money is up to me. Put simply, I don't give a damn. So if there is no physical copy for me, I won't bother with it and I won't miss it. Personally, I feel there is room for both physical and digital media. I don't think one should rule out the other.
Oh, did ya hear, Vinyl is dead too.

I don't think you're saying that. You're saying that it's a slippery slope.
In many ways you are right, if companies could have total control (and streaming that they control would do that) they'd love it.
But PSNow is for playing games that don't run on the PS4. It's not the same thing as DL games by a long shot. I don't think we'll ever get fully streamed games simply because people won't like it. And if you think that the non-swappable XBoxOne backlash was big imagine if they announced streaming only games for XBoxTwo!
So although it would appear, in some ways, that streaming is a logical progression from digital only it'll never happen.
At least with the digital versions there is (like with Steam) the possibility of offline unlocks or publisher provided offline cracks.

Personally, I want a copy struck on a wax cylinder that can only be implemented by the use of a wooden dowel, fan blades, and a shit load of steam produced by burning the tears of a million hungry children.
Only then...ONLY THEN...will I install it to my hard drive.
Unless I can have this, it's not real to me.

Regardless of the quality, I would still rather 'deprive' myself the indulgence of a game if the company can't be bothered creating a physical copy. Physical copies are special. The are something you can go back and touch years later, they evoke an experience. I can forgive an Indie studio with no cash doing digital only, but not a AAA release like this.
OK, but you can see where things are heading. Will you just never buy a PC game ever again? Because within a year or two, there probably won't be any physical copies of PC games anymore. Don't get me wrong, I like having a physical copy too. But if I can't get one, then I'm just going to move on to the next best thing.
I think people have always feared the next big thing, whether it was a cassette or a CD-ROM or Blu ray. Eventually you have to evolve though. Sorry, not trying to sound harsh, but that's kind of the way it is.

Nobody's disputing that.

So the quality of the product itself is irrelevant, if you can't get a physical copy of it? If the development of the new Thief had taken a different course and after release, every taffer was telling you it's every bit as good as TDP, you still wouldn't buy it if you couldn't get a boxed copy?
SubJeff on 29/1/2014 at 15:46
Was thinking the same thing Jah.
If this was a reformed LGS project and was looking like the absolute pinnacle of classic Thief brought to the next generation I do wonder what these people would be saying.

The quality isn't completely irrelevant, but I wouldn't pay full price for a digital download.

Never say never, but like I said above, I wouldn't pay full price for it. I don't fear these things, not at all. I've embraced all of the past changes from Tape, to CD, to Blu-ray. I've seen them all. Tapes have been making a comeback recently with bands using them as a cheap and fun way to hand out music at events, and Vinyl sales are once again on the rise too. It's just another phase and I think demand for physical copies will probably come around again.
