So, no thoughts/takers on my idea from the previous page for those of you who refuse to buy a digital copy of Thiaf? Heck, you could probably make a better cover than EM.:sly:
Add a box and maybe but they are still just backup discs. Not very special.

True, but at least you'd be making something your own and in that way it could be special. And, you'd have your physical media. I know it's not an ideal solution, but it might be better than simply refusing to buy the game at all. Unless of course you're really not into the game in the first place, then I suppose it's really pointless.
Personally, I was a really big fan of physical media, but over the years I've warmed up to things like Steam and GOG for my gaming needs. I haven't gone into a store to buy a video game in a while. Digital allows me to be lazy and avoid the trip, plus have the game sooner. (Well, that's not quite accurate, as the download of the title could easily exceed the time it takes to drive to the store and pick up the game, but the act of buying is quicker.)
I've also come to realize that it is better in the long run because I don't waste space in my house with physical product. Heck, I've already got tons of physical media and it takes up a lot of space. That being said, I do still like the physical media and having that special case.

Physical media is dead, and I say good riddance.Ok honestly this part is just stupid. You're acting like it's a good thing that you can't actually own a hard copy anymore.
Aside from the fact that with it gone it only burns bridges for the consumer and benefits absolutely no one besides the distributor, you also forget to ask things like "What happens when the companies I bought my DL from go under?" Here's what happens: All those games you bought are gone, at least with steam you can download a offline copy if valve goes under it says that in the paperwork. How about games that never get a physical copy and are purely online from only one online distributor? This sounds weird now but it's probably more likely in the future, then those games are gone for good and anyone who would want to go back and play them is sol.
There are so many things wrong with this statement the biggest being is theres absolutely no upside.

Some Steam games will be download only already.
And if companies that own digital only games close and the game is not available anymore how is that different to a disc no longer being made?
The only difference between digital and physical copies, practically, is the danger of game locking of the online DRM provider goes down.
But as you said, in the case of Steam, you'll be able to DL and back up an offline copy.

You can still buy it used on ebay, amazon, etc.
I'm not arguing DL is bad I'm aguing that saying hard copies going away is a "good riddance" is retarded.

And there will still be digital copies of these games kicking about.

Probably but theres talk that dl games will eventually go to streaming. As in the game is entirely server sided and you are streamed the display and send inputs which sounds horrible for a few reasons. It's not a reality now but it's headed in that direction especially since it would be near impossible to pirate these games.
The huge appeal to hardcopies is most likely the feeling of collection and ownership, which is enough for some people especially hardcore fans who would do things like buy models of characters from stuff which serve no purpose but to sit there.

Let's not talk about something else. This was about DLs not streaming. Stay on topic.
Streaming is a different thing altogether.

They're not too entirely different things its just that streaming is the next step after DL, and pretty much the DL vs Hardcopy thing comes down to this:
They're for the most part the same except when they stop being supported hardcopies can be bought online and pirated, and dl's can be pirated. Like I said earlier the reason people favor Hardcopies is it has the feel of collect-ability DL's lack.
