I'm forwarding your post to certain embattled Rwandan radio personalities

Don't be such a dork - I'm obviously talking American political talk radio.

"And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. And the laws are good because we know what happens to people in societies and neighborhoods which become consumed by them. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up."
"Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too."
From Wikipedia, so not too much research there.
I assume he means illegal drugs rather than painkillers such as codeine which is basically legal but limited in supply in large quantities. Coffee is also a "drug" btw (ie can alter chemical processes in your body and alter one's behaviour).

Sorry, aguy - my previous discussion of Rush Limbaugh/Bill O'Reilly/et all with a forum full of diehard conservatives led me to believe that they WERE treated as intellectuals - when I suggested what you just did (that they were entertainers) I got a load of flak, with people screaming at me that Rush Limbaugh was a leading political activist and that Bill was an American Hero - I guess I was just operating under the pretense of taking what he says seriously, as many of his listeners obviously do.

There's huge difference between agwpt-style-conservatism and the baseline of right-wing ignorant asshats on the internet.

(
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1159) Why do you assume he said it on Talk Radio?
Eagerly awaiting TV, websites and books to be declared out of context too :thumb:
"unless you plan to show some things he has said about drug addicts (in context btw) that you knew of when you wrote that."
In all seriousness, what do you think his views on drug issues are? You say you have no idea what he's said in the past about it, well he's clearly said the things I quoted. Here's the thing: do you actually believe he doesn't mean what he's saying there? That he was only saying them for entertainment's sake?
aguywhoplaysthief on 1/5/2006 at 06:30
Oh I think he probably believes what he says at some level, sure.

First thing I want to mention is the distinction between "thinks", and "thought". It's pretty much self-explanatory what I mean when I say that, so I'll move on.
Most likely he thinks that addiction to some prescription pain medicine is different than being a jobless, pregnant, crack-mother buying drugs with welfare checks from a violent drug dealer who can't speak English.
As for what people say on television spots: Why do people who aren't in television appear on television? To persuade the audience that doesn't already patron their stuff (radio, book, etc.) to buy into whatever it is that they're selling.
But whatever. Hopefully he will go to jail so we can fill those airwaves with something that isn't boring.

America would have to be pretty extreme if they send someone to jail for low level painkiller use! All he probably did was get stronger pain killers than he needed and maybe went to multiple sources to exceed the maximum allowed (although he denies dr shopping). I don't know if that is a criminal offence and even if it is it's pretty minor!
Gingerbread Man on 1/5/2006 at 06:48
Guess what happens when low-income black folk are caught doctor-shopping for prescription painkillers?
aguywhoplaysthief on 1/5/2006 at 07:09
Low-income black folk can't afford prescription pain-killers.
I'm like a pig sniffing out truffles I am.
