No one with any knowlege of the situation will have an easy time determining what the "lesser of evils" is. The media does not often show the dark side of this situation, but you can find it if you care to.

They're stealing more than that. Think of how much money you pay on taxes. An illegal immigrant is getting many of the same benefits (roads, schooling, etc.) without paying for them.

And here was me thinking that as a general rule of thumb, immigrants (legal and illegal) contribute more value to economies than they take out.

Illegal immigrants are usually nice. It's just when you get hit by a truck they might steal your groceries. That's the only time they aren't so friendly.
