So give them legal guest worker status and tax their incomes.
YESSS! I have an idea guys, lets give them federal identification and worker status, better yet, why don't we just open the borders save the bs paperwork and enforcement spending, because, quite honestly, there's not a whole lot more to citizenship, unless you're going to deny them education, in which you're just a sick person for forcing them to live a life of poverty.
i hate having to quote myself, but here it goes...

Do you also consider that once they start paying taxes, that 'triple' might break even?

guys i have report
For such a free thinker you certainly seem to be believe this media account of this report you haven't read and probably don't know the author of like it was the word of god. Given that it takes two seconds to find a report that predicts by the tenth year the federal government will be 2.6 billion
up on the deal a more skeptical person would hesitate to consider the matter settled.
Of course immigrant use of services would go up if they could do so legally. But the real question is how would that compare to the increased tax revenue and the broad economic benefit of their work.

They're stealing more than that. Think of how much money you pay on taxes. An illegal immigrant is getting many of the same benefits (roads, schooling, etc.) without paying for them.
Bullshit.

umm, I have read it, and if you would have read it you wouldn't be asking the question you just did. Let me break it down according to the Washington Post such a sketchy source I know:rolleyes:
1) services go up...so there's the cost.
2) income gets taxed, but taxes don't cover the costs because of their overall lower incomes. The difference is significant enough to make the annual cost go from $10 billion to $30 billion dollars...these arn't small numbers. This country's income tax assumes a certain average salary. Add 12 million people with equal cost to the government but very low income-tax revenue and suddenly you have substantially shifted the average income, and hence, the government's net income.
thats what the report says, and thats the statistical consensus, I don't know where you're getting your info from.
a possible solution? education. but then whats the point of citizenship?

So people can feel smug: "my parents have been here longer than your parents"
Makes no sense to me, but some Americans seem to find it important.

Washington Post or not, it's still the media, right?

it's pretty sickening to watch, even when your own family is so god-damn stupid that they believe the media like the word of god...
And I still don't know where you got your information from either, because despite having read this report you're still relying on the explanation the Washington Post gave you. Educated guess is that the Heritage Foundation was involved.
I also don't know why you think there's a consensus here when there is a (
http://www.icirr.org/stories/tribjun407.htm) documented dispute over what the effects would be.

Washington Post vs Chicago Tribune...tonight! lol
honestly though, the Chicago Tribune is talking about a net drain on the economy while the Washington Post is considering the net financial drain. I can quote it right here from the CT
Quote:
"There's no doubt that low-skilled immigrants, like low-skilled Americans, cost the government more than they pay in taxes ... but it's more than offset by the economic benefits."
I'm not saying they're a drain on the economy, I know I worked my ass off making minimum wage and making every second at work count towards the benefit of the company, but drain on the economy is subjective, while a net-financial loss is a statistic.
