It happened again, only this time the teacher is actually attractive... - by AxTng1

What the hell planet are you living on?
I was just responding to the everyone being ageist against the young comment. I probably should have added healthy/not disabled to the list.
How about:
You're less likely to be discriminated against if you're middle-aged, middle-class, heterosexual, able-bodied/healthy etc whatever pc terms I'm supposed to use, white and male UNLESS you are the victim of 'positive' discrimination.
Better?

I hate to be all boring and bring this thread back on topic, but a teacher from the UK (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/6154154.stm) has now been found to be innocent as she claimed he forced her to do this with threats and a screwdriver.
I wonder if they will bring a prosecution against the boy or just leave it? Must be rather hard to go back to teaching him pretending nothing has happened.

Ok - I'll change my attack from you to the idea itself. Anyone who thinks middle-aged, middle-class, heterosexual, able-bodied/healthy or disabled has some type of privileged existence in the world is either 12 or clearly not any of the above. Maybe I'm the odd man out, but I'm almost middle-aged (35), lower middle-class, heterosexual, and married.
Try it out on a tax form and see how it works out for you.
Try applying for Pell Grants or Stafford loans.
Try applying for a real job only to find out that you qualify but can't have the position due to diversity issues and your white.
Try getting government assistance like WIC for your kids, or Medicaid to help cover prescription costs.
The 'privileged' middle-class concept is a myth perpetuated by god only knows who, but it sucks big time financially and it pisses me right off when it gets regurgitated. It's simply not true in my experience as a middle-class, middle-aged, heterosexual whatever pc terms apply. Maybe I'm living in a bubble.
Not sure what you mean by 'positive discrimination'...
Nothing personal. ;)
Edit: Notice in that last link the writer continually refers to him as 'the child' (so we'll picture a 4 year old) instead of 'the teenager' or even 'the student'. Bastards.

That's ok. Things are obviously different in the US to here in UK :p
Positive discrimination is where you discriminate against the people who don't usually get discriminated against. This can lead to ridiculous situations- my sister used to work for a large gas company doing data entry. It was difficult to get a job there if you were a white male, but they did give a job to an asian girl who never did any work because she was too busy drawing pictures in paint, she did however help them in their mission to fill a quota of black or minority ethnic workers

Yeah, large gas companies in this fair land are notorious for not having any white male workers at all. Impossible for them to find work there, it is.
Curse this burdensome skin colour of mine! If only I could trade it for a different shade, I would surely find work in an instant and not suffer any prejudice whatsoever. It would be like living a dream. A dream I tell you.
I mean, wherever I worked I'd probably be dogged by unpleasant whisperings that I was just there to fill a quota. But otherwise, a dream.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you guys either have way more money than me or are willing to perform sexual favors to get ahead. :p

The second part is a given.
fett on 16/11/2006 at 17:08
Obviously you're not very gifted or the first part would be true as well.
Vigil on 16/11/2006 at 18:03
It'd certainly be true if you weren't such a lousy tipper.
