While not original IBM model M, I am also using "The Clicker". It looks almost identical to the one at the pic. And it's pretty damn heavy so I guess it's metal as well.
BUT! I wanted to learn touchtyping. Hovewer, I focused more on
not looking at the keys than on the typing itself. Knowing that (
www.daskeyboard.com) Das Keyboard solves that problem, I wanted to get one. Alas, I am a cheap slacker, so I simply spraypainted my keyboard
black. It works flawlessly.

This is a keyboard for a REAL MAN. Go out and BUY ONE, DAMMIT, if you think you can handle it! Otherwise the Model M will HUNT YOU DOWN and slaughter you messily!
I'm pretty sure Chuck Norris uses one of these

Who cares about clicks? I just want a keyboard that can recognize Shift+W+2 (i.e., draw blackjack while running in Thief).

It's... it's just so nice to find othes who share my plight! *sobs* Yeah, it is a serious pain trying to find a keyboard you can reconfigure for dvorak, especially an ergonomic. Most of the split-layout boards have those idiotic oversized keys so they can maintain 'clean' lines. I used the Compusa ergo board for a long time until it was discontinued, then I found a Lite-On model on Newegg for about ten bucks less, which actually turned out to be the same item without the rebranding/markup. The problem with these keyboards was the action was just utterly horrendous. Honestly, after a few months of typing it became the equivalent of wading through knee-deep mud. It also didn't help that they were ps2. And that gross beige color from the mainframe era of pc hardware.
I'm currently using (
http://www.adesso.com/products_detail.asp?productid=302) this baby and it is
great. USB, black, absolutely fantastic key action- what's not to love? The obligatory extra media and application keys are well-arranged and large. Even if you don't want to Dvorak your setup it is still a great deck, though it is somewhat big. I got mine from Provantage for about 30 bucks and the turnaround was excellent. I should mention that even if the item is listed as 'out-of-stock', if you click on the link it will display a real-time status which might actually show that it is available.

CLICKY-CLACKY keyboards may be fine for typing, but for game use they suck to an ungodly degree. When I'm sneaking around in Thief, the last thing I need is a continuous stream of CLICK--CLICKCLACK--CLICKCLACKCLICK coming from the keyboard.
Even though I learned PCs on an old XT clicky keyboard, these days my keyboard of choice is a cheap $5 Fellowes keyboard. It's lightweight, quiet, responsive, and isn't festooned with scads of those inane programmable/multimedia buttons.

I had a keyboard like that for years. This thing fucking rocks! The only reason I changed to a new one was... actually why did I... Nevermind, it was an awesome keybaord, I still keep it in the closet. I played more Wolfenstein 3D on that thing than any of you has in a lifetime.

Doesn't the color rub off?
Because I thought about painting my (
http://www.e-management.concertopro.ch/productinfo/image/km/G83-6208LRNCH_G.jpg) black Cherry too. Although I would probably paint them consecutively. Learn some, paint some, the ZEN way to perfection.
Edit: I just started by painting the keys F,J, E and I. I used an Edding and I guess if this doesn't work I can still get rid of the color with some nail polish remover. What I like about this approach is that I can leave some of the special characters on the keyboard and maybe learn them later if at all.

Witness the IMMORTAL, INDESTRUCTIBLE, IBM MODEL M KEYBOARD:
Quoted for agreement! I still have one of these, and it's been around for as long as I can remember! In fact, I think it was the keyboard used on our very first computer (if you don't count the old terminal my mom taught me to type on).

did it have PEBKAC layout :sly:
