Hello all,
I'm a French student in Game/Level Design and before that a student in 3D for video games.
I decided to work with Thief 3 Editor on a personal project (just for the fun).
But when i want to export 3D objects i've made from 3D Studio Max (I even download 3DS Max 5 for T3Ed), the exporter (BatchExportStaticMeshTimFiles.ms) did nothing (just a log file).
Does somebody maybe help me ?
Thanks
Max

I believe there isn't a French T3Edder here yet, so you're very welcome! After all we can claim to be more international than the DromEdders.

It's been a while since I last exported anything (because I'm running Vista now and can't get Max5 to work on this computer), but I don't think I've ever used the batch export thing you mention - I just use the normal file>export options in the menu and select *.tim file as the file type to save as.
If you've got a load of individual objects you can select them all and do that and each one will get exported (named the same as the object was in 3DS max). The file name you choose to save as actually gives the name of the log file for the process, but the location you save it to should be where the staticmeshes show up.
Also - remember that if you want the object to cast shadows and to have the proper sound effects when things hit it in TDS, you need to close the mesh - no uncapped borders, no non-welded vertices. And you will thank yourself for it later if you make sure that the origin/pivot is in a useful place and in the correct orientation.
Finally, if you make anything interesting, share it with us over at (

and brag about it (or at least tell us about it) here (

Just exported another mesh (a first for a while), and yeah - to create the staticmesh it's just File>Export (or Export Selected) Select "Staticmesh4 (.tim)" as the output type, select the directory you want it to save into, then type some random name into the box before hitting okay.
A couple of seconds later and you should have a few new files in that directory - one *.tim file for the staticmesh itself, named the same as the object was named in 3DSMax (not the export dialogue box), and a couple of log files.
