Just got a new copy of the first Thief game, install (which goes through fine), go to play and it comes up saying that the Direct3d isn't working properly. OK, go online and find the fix for that (v.1.33 patch and the fixed .exe file). Go to install the patch and it says I'm already at version 1.33 (properties of icon say 1.9, but whatever) so I unzip the new .exe and run Thief. Get past the shopping and the game crashes due to an, "unexpected error." I can't figure out for the life of me what is causing this. Any speculation?

Could be a movies issue, since that's right when the opening briefing movie would be shown.

Really? It plays the movie before Bafford's Mission and goes to the objectives screen afterwords, then to the pre-mission store fine. When you actually get in game mode, it comes up with the unexpected error message and closes out. I'll try the movie fix and see if that helps anyways.
EDIT: Nope. That didn't fix it. I got the indeo file mentioned in the FAQ but it didn't do anything but slow the game down.

Got it on ebay, actually. I've never seen this cover art on the jewel case before so I'm thinking it might be a really new copy. Like I said, the .exe version is 1.9, would that have anything to do with it?
Also, hyperthreading isn't the issue. The computer was already running one processor anyways due to Thief 2.

Don't see it anywhere on the case, insert, or disc. The disc has a copyright of 1999 where as the papers have 1998 copyrights on them if that helps at all.
