Well I took the plunge, I bought it, I will try it if I can keep with its mechanics.

The game isn't particularly hard, and you have full control on how difficult you want to make it.

It's not that hard. I would say the difficulty is about right.
The game is a real beam of light in the modern game "ecosystem". No handholding, no modern crap in the game.

I think its actually pretty good. I really enjoyed it. If you find it too hard just access the secret menu and use cheat codes..lol

I played all Normal (2/2/2/2) the first time and changed Cyber to Easy (1) on replay.
Combat on Normal starts easy and gets hard later in the game when enemies become sponges and pursue you. There were a few places where I wished I could turn off respawning.
Mission on Normal is the only way to play. The game gives you information on how to use things, but there's no in-game tutorials and it doesn't lead you around, so you have to figure out how to progress. Mission on Easy puts waypoints on the map (yuck) and Hard is only for speedrunners.
Cyber on Normal got tedious at times, some levels I had to repeat over and over. I would choose Easy.
Puzzles on Normal was just right. I had to think but didn't get stumped and frustrated. I was tempted to raise this to Hard for my second run.

I agree, put Cyber to 1 if you don't want to be frustrated. Combat to 2, or 1 if you're not great at shooters. I remember you saying you had trouble with System Shock 2, so combat to 1 is worth considering.

I play with the same settings as I always use on the original: All set to 3 except mission, because I don't like the time limit imposed. I prefer to take my time and explore every corner.
