Firstly I have to say that I have *finally* finished SS2! I remember playing the demo of it courtesy of a PC Gamer CD around Christmas 1999 and thought it looked pretty interesting. Heck now that I think of it that was before I even played Thief!:wot: Fast forward to 2007 or so and copies were selling for 3 times the 1999 price. I eventually got a copy a few years ago and got as far as Hydroponics before the constant feeling on vulnerability wore me down and I stopped playing. However recently I steeled myself and persevered to the end. Glad I did- what a great game! I'd say it's on a par with Half Life, and even surpasses it in some ways.
Currently I'm on the fence as to whether the ending was funny or total crap. But that's irrelevant. When I started the game I chose an understandable starting method- concentrate on strength, endurance and standard weapons. Psionics and hacking seemed too fiddly to me so I became the typical Marine. I deduced a few hours into the game that being a jack of all trades would make things very tough, so it's best to specialise.
Which brings me to my thread topic. I've tried the "tank" approach. Is it worthwhile to take a very different approach, namely to specialise in agility, and basically avoid combat? (Or "run away" if you want to denounce me as a wuss) Combat can be very draining on resources as we know.

Short answer: yes, it is. Using hacking and psi can make others do the fighting for you, or you can just slip by unnoticed. My preferred style of play is usually a mix of hacking, energy weapons and psi. I don't think I have ever played as 'tank'. I remember using the grenade launcher on my very first SS2 playthrough, but never again after that. And the fusion cannon remains completely unknown for me, even after all these years.

Yep, I agree with D'Arcy (Hi, BTW). Psi is a great way to play, but you are very vulnerable in the early stages. Later in the game it's fun to use Psi to make rumblers work for you and watch them fight each other.

hey, Yep. I need to get my shock install fully updated and we can go again. It's been so long since I played it'll almost be a new experience for me again :)
