Is that raw sewerage? YES. I LOVE IT. - by Scots Taffer

While the original remains the high watermark for almost all spoof movies ever made, the sequels were too similar in formula and not as cleverly written or inspired - though some scenes, like the thread title, emerge from the funk.
So colour me surprised and enthusiastic when sudden news of a (
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40512) Naked Gun 4 script broke and the reviews of it are extremely favourable.
Some brilliant excerpts that fill me with hope:
Quote:
An ambitious Commissioner decides the only way to save the city is to reactivate the long inactive Police Squad, a division with a reputation similar to “The Untouchables,” and calls a retired Frank Drebin for guidance. Drebin initially thinks he's being called back to active duty. He's excited: “I can still do everything I did thirty years ago... just slower and with more mistakes,”
I can literally see and hear the delivery of a 90 year old Nielsen in my mind's eye.
Quote:
Throughout, Drebin is depicted like Obi Wan and even offers some early voice over narration but has to stop because the entire city can hear it.
This is just perfect. I laughed reading this.

The TV shows “CSI” and “Law & Order” get lampooned with an interrogation scene so dimly lit no one can find the door at the end ... There seems to be a shot taken in the direction of “24” with a split screen sequence that shows inconsequential stuff happening as well as a scene from another movie entirely.
And this is how you mock contemporary stuff in that "Scary Movie" fashion but just let it be part of the background instead of the whole damn film.

Sledge Hammer, an old late night TV favourite of mine that I'm not sure survived through to the 2000s with its humour entact, but we can but hope.

Sounds great. I love the first one and the second one has plenty of great moments too however the less said about the third one the better.
Is Nielsen really 90 years old now?

IMDB says 83, so not quite.

"Nice Beaver."
My favorite comedy movies of all time - they could make 20 of these and I'd still go see them. Something about Nielson makes him very unfunny unless he's doing his Police Squad shtick. Can't wait. :thumb:

Yes. This is good.
If they can pull it off, rise above 33 1/3 (which I did not dislike too much, either), and Nielsen won't kick the bucket before it's a wrap, this might actually be a salvation-level incident for the genre that I - a fan of poor movies - haven't paid any attention to for almost a decade.
Oh, I did think the new Maxwell Smart movie was funny, and often because it was going for a similar vibe as the Naked Guns.

Wasn't it pretty much riffing on the Dirty Harry genre and mentality? In itself that character was a distillation of right-wing thinking.

Okay, I'll put you out of your misery - it was a parody on the Dirty Harry genre.
