Thanks a lot guys! I might get it off of Ebay.
Yeah I am a fan of Rurouni Kenshin (I haven't watched the series for some years now though) so that's awesome to hear! I've heard some of the music and it does sound amazing! Really looking forward to check this game out now! Thanks a lot!
Count me down as another fan of that anime. Even named my WoW character after him. I'm picky with my anime, but that show was awesome. 3rd season not so much, but the first 2 are just great stuff. The first 2 OVA's got me completely hooked.

Revisited Tenchu this weekend. Definitely transports you to another time in gaming in a good way. I was surprised how atmospheric and tense it still is. I especially like the atmosphere of the third level with the caves. It's a nice feature that guards change positions and patrols on each reload. It helps keeping things fresh and tense. Too bad the series hasn't seen a release for some time.
On the negatives I still hate the boss battles and the draw distance is a bit disappointing in the larger levels. Items bought before a mission are permanently lost on death, which seems unnecessarily inconvenient. You can bypass this by saving before a mission and reloading on death to item scum, but that's annoying...
The second game I only got to the first boss before quitting. The second has a lot more cool moves and features, but takes two steps back in other areas like music and atmosphere.

Yeah, Tenchu 2 has tons of content, but the lack of music makes it feel weird and kind of ... dry. I actually thought my CD's broken or something when I first popped the disc in.

Tenchu 2 was a better game in most ways. It had a comprehensible story, more weapons, character story progression told from three perspectives and IIRC a level editor.
Tenchu 1 wasn't really translated all that well. So lots of Japanese text without explanation, IIRC.
The subsequent Tenchu's were pretty weak.
I have fond memories of both games, but particularly the second. If I think about it though and take of the rosey specs, it's a bug riddled and somewhat clunky mess. You get detected by enemies who can see through walls and hear a footstep from a mile away, but despite that I really enjoyed it.
Makes me miss the slightly more realistic combat games from around that time.
Edit: didn't the music kick in during fights?
Edit 2: checked some tube clips, seems to be the case. Also, it looks like balls, memory is so rosey.
