I would like the opinions from you guys on this forum because I know you all like Thief and FMs.
That's why! :cheeky:

I played Oblivion as a Thief and called him Garrett.
We have the same diagnosis :cheeky:

Well.... I think it takes about a minute to discover if Oblivion is alike. Or a whole thread :cheeky:

Thanks for the comments. I might not have made my question clear. I know the basic differences of sneakers and RPGs; I’m just looking for a game that will give me the same feel and enjoyment as Thief. I guess no game compares to Thief.

You can still play it like Thief. Or you can play it in a number of ways. You just can't pigeon hole the thing in any specific category.

Wait for the demo, you might not like it! Seriously, wait until there's a demo first!
there's not going to be a demo
maybe he could borrow it from a friend or search some movies on the internet about the stealth in the game
btw found an interesting article about the stealth:

As soon as I got Oblivion I chose the Thief class and started leveling up Sneak and Security skills like crazy. I joined the Thieves' Guild and started doing all kinds of missions for them.
Pros: You can get through a whole lot of the game's missions using stealth, and if you want to backstab someone, you can quite often kill them in one hit when stealth.
Cons: The shadows are not as good as Thief's, but then the game wasn't made specifically for that. They are usually good enough to let you know where you can and can't go without being seen.
Also, it is easy to raise your skills up too quickly and jump a bunch of levels. Then a lot of the monsters level up WITH you, and if you have focused too much on your stealth skills and not your combat skills, you can't defeat any opponents. It got to the point where I would back stab the demon guys for
6x damage, they would just turn around and beat me to death. My advice: take a warrior or mage class and develop those as your main skills, but use stealth as a side skill.

Search for tes4_oblvion_20minPREVIEWgameplay.zip and download it. It is a video of Oblivion with narration, description, and shows many clips from the game itself. The downloaded size is about 119MB.

That's what I did too. Leveling security and sneaking is damn easy for a warrior. I think it is much harder the other way round. And you get some items that raise your thief-skills when doing the sneaky guilds anyway (dark brotherhood and thieves' guild), so there's no need to have them that high...

I think this has been here long enough for heman31 to get an idea of what Thief players think of Obivio. I'm shifting it over to the Oblivion forum now.
