Hehe, there were lots of books in Ultima 7 though. Except of course, when you read them you just read summaries of what they were supposed to contain. Which was funny; they were a nice addition to the game though, as they are in Morrowind I'm sure.
More Ultima7 bits - baking your own bread. :D
The crashed Kilrathi spaceship in that farmers field.. fiddling and organising your inventory for best aesthetic effect; throwing buckets of blood at people and seeing their reactions "You miscreant!", talking to Sherry the mouse in LB's castle.. and remembering how Sherry could be added to your party in Ultima VI. (wih about 1 hitpoint). So fucking cute it made you happy to be alive.
Whadda game. If only it was in first person with MW style graphics... or that MW had that sort of detail and personality. (I'm limbing here though).
I'm actually looking forward to Arx Fatalis a lot more than Morrowind at this stage. A really compelling modern "sequel" to Ultima Underworld is looking more attractive every post I read about MW. It's also French, and France = teh cool. ;)
I will say though that the MW modding scene has great potential.
Tuco on 12/6/2002 at 03:53
Man, I didn't know Sherry the Mouse could be in your party =(
Oh well =D
(BTW, according to Forsythe, I'm not the type to be allowed to enjoy ultima 7.... Darn)
Forsythe on 12/6/2002 at 16:15
*laugh* Tuco, really now, what else am I supposed to think when we get such gems as "Tuco not read, tuco slash and bash."? Or how about where you point out that you were disappointed by MW because you could solve it in two weeks? After all, it's a game with many odd alleys and avenues to be explored, not sprinted thru. If it doesn't float your boat, oh well, find another to play, no? Frankly, if MW disappointed you as badly as you imply, I'm truly surprised you hang out on this board as often as you do.
Sure, I'll agree that there were too many "escort" and "fetch an item" quests, but at the same time there were a number of memorable ones (for instance, I thoroughly enjoyed Gentleman Jim's "special" quests). Sure, I'll agree that for many, balance became unwieldy near the end... me, I liked the effect. *shrug* Each to their own, no?
You can enjoy whatever you please, I was just trying to point out that your statements in this thread were more of the "kill!kill!kill!" Roll-PG's and FPS's than the "Hmm.. lemme siddown and see what else is out there" Role-PG's. On the one hand, if you were speaking openly and honestly then no, I'm surpised that any Role-PG's appeal to you. On the other hand, if you were simply striking a pose for effect or controversy, you can hardly hold my interpretation of your words at fault, now can you?

Hopefully, more people will read this thread it is very interesting.
In reply to Tuco...
A roleplying game reflcets its player, and Morrowind is the pinnacle of true roleplaying, as of yet.
The game is what you make of it. The center quest is relatively straightforward, but the hundreds of side quests are where the real satisfaction comes in... and challenges.
It's scope may outweigh it's playability, yes, but there are times when the game transcends "video game" and becomes true art. That is exhilarating. That is the evolution of computer gaming... I see Morrowind as a link in the evolutionary chain.
Like the creatures that play it, it's not perfect but damn impressive.

pinnacle? my ass it is.
Those 'sidequests' are all 'fluff'... The majority of them are simple cut and paste from other missions. There is no depth to them.
Forsythe, you seem to believe that all I did was 'rush' and beat the main quest asap. That's not true. Rather, I spent the time and effort to see what those so called 'satifaction sources' had to offer. Each time I beat a faction.(7 atm) I was quite dissapointed at the lack of depth to it. I mean, where you win a line of quests by simply finding someone, killing them, and sometimes taking an item, and then bringing it to the quest giver(Morag Tong), how can you expect for that to be deep?? No, I didn't just complete the main quest, I explorered most of MW, talked to a damn lot of NPCs, and did a whole crapload of worthless, filler/fluff quests...
MW was too ambitious, they tried to make a huge, dynamic world, but instead they made a cumbersome, reptitive one.
Can't like RPGs... Ah the hell with you.
Shadowbob on 13/6/2002 at 00:54
Tuco, go play Serious Sam.
Painkiller on 13/6/2002 at 01:04
If you really disliked this game, what the hell did you stick around for and...keep playing ?!!?:weird:
Don't use the line, "...I wanted to see if it got better".
Please.
If I smell a turd, I don't have to pick it up and lick it to see if it gets better.
Personally, if I dislike a game, it doesn't take me 2 weeks of serious playing to figure out I don't like it.
Tuco not know if he like or not...
Tuco keep playing...
Tuco still not know if he like or not...
Tuco keep playing...
Tuco finish game...
Tuco not like...
Tuco slam game...
Tuco opinion is right opinion...
Whatever man.
BTW, I liked Ultima IV Quest of the Avatar better. Iolo was a nobody then. Just played his silly lute.

Bleh, I liked the game, otherwise I wouldn't be here. But many people's 'talks' of it being the 'best ever' are wrong.
Again, like I've said before, I'm here to help people(Like I do in many of my posts), give my opinion on the game, and flame people... It's all rather simple.
Now stop trying to argue whether I should or should not be here.
I never got to play ultima9 =\ I heard it got bad reviews, and I didn't have my recent computer(and ergo couldn't play it... having a 2mb video card = sux)
Bob, I've played/have both Serious Sams, they're wonderful little games. It has the best game engine graphic wise imho, certainly with the largest texture sizes yet, and has the most active polygon count, as well as the best LoD bias, and it can run smoothly on a 500mhz voodoo3 machine =) But it doesn't have a solid multiplayer, besides mindless shoot things down, which isn't what I'm about really..
bleh, arguing with ME on MY opinions of MY game... You'd be doing more actions of consequence if you lighting your sack on fire.
Forsythe on 13/6/2002 at 15:01
Welp, I've been wrong before and I've no doubts I'll be wrong in the future; seems I was wrong here. I simply don't understand how anyone could explore the entire game and end up taking a dislike to it... *shrug* Ah well, if I've offended, please accept my apologies.
