I come here to answer peoples questions about the game, bitch about how easy it was, flame someone, then beg for dragons.
Now, Bob, I don't know what YOU add to this forum, but I've helped a shitload of people with the SAME problems I had when I played MW... That's why I come to this forum.

I have always been a PC gamer. I have never played a role playing game before. As far as i was concerned rpg's were for people who liked dressing up ;)
I went and bought a Gamecube on its day of release because i was getting so tired of pc games, even Return To Castle Wolfenstein has been taken over by a load of adolescents and have spoiled it. As a 1st person shooter fan i considered RTCW to be one of the best games i have played.
However, I was round a mates house on Morrowinds day of release and was blown away. So much so that i went and bought it on the way home and havent played anything else since. I love this game and although i have no frame of reference to compare it to other RPG's it has got me playing it, and i think any game that can bring new players into an already well established genre which i previously had no interest in should be proud.
(I think my Gamecube is still under the coffee table where i left it).

Hrm.. dunno, Tuco, I think you're missing out on the point if all you do is skim the books. Some of the puzzles are actually easier if you've done so (especially the riddle puzzles), and besides, the whole world makes much more sense if you've done so. I mean no offense, but your words don't lead me to believe that you're the type to delve deeply into things beyond what you absolutely must know to win the game. If so, I really think you're doing both yourself and this game an injustice; as many others have said in other words, it's meant to be carefully explored and examined from all angles. Your mentality, again meaning no offense, strikes me more as leaning towards the FPS and RTS "action & adrenaline" genres; I really don't think you'd know a quality Role-Playing Game (note: not Roll-PG) if it bit you.
To prove that I'm simply trying to be factual, please allow me to explain: I really don't like RTS's, be they top-down or team-based. (I may be using the wrong term in referring to R6 as an RTS... oh well, you get the idea) I don't understand the point of them (send units to attack base, conquer base, "wheeee"). Yet at the same time, I recognise this about myself and steer clear of them; I haven't bought one since Rainbow 6, and I'm anything but enthused about Warcraft 3's release date. I'm the last person to ask about what makes up a good RTS, and (based solely upon what you've said are your opinions) I think similarly of you regarding Role-PG's.

Agree with above. I bought Earth 2001 a while back based on positive reviews & etc., and ended up hating it. Crushed the CD in my garbage disposal
Then I also tried Disciples 2, as it was billed as a RPG mixed with an RTS. That was even too RTS for me. Hated it too.
Action: Doom 2 was the last action game I enjoyed, not counting Max Payne.
The central idea to RPG's is STORY and how it develops around you. For comparison, look at the text based adventure games (for real), BG series -- hell, even Sacrifice can be counted as an RPG as your character develops through the game and is central to the story.
Morrowing is the ultimate example of an RPG and should be reviewed/evaluated in that light, not compared with RTS or action games.:)

To Forsythe:
I'm sure you've had a lot of luck previously, when judging the core of someones being on a few 'webpage posts'. TBH I don't think some underpaid azn monkey on a typewrite making wildly unrelated short stories defines a game as a good RPG or not. The RBG at its core, in my oh so unhumble oppinion, is defined by good, solid, involved quests. Not books... not reading pages of... well, crap. I read a few of MW's books, mind you, the one with the artifacts, the one about how to defeat Dagoth Ur, and some other ones. It's all fluff really, and THAT is not what makes a RPG good. (This is for me mind you, if you like reading 'fluff', then that's your cake. I'm just stating my opinion.)
There are a LOT of books in MW, the most I've seen in an RPG, commendments to the guy who made them(No I don't think it was a helper monkey.) However, this isn't the basis by which I judge a game to be good or not. I shouldn't have to rely on unrelated text to be involved, do I forsythe? Maybe you do.
Some quests in MW were quite interesting and memorable. *Thinks of one*, ah yes, the one where you steal from that fool of an elf's stash (Jagoth or some soddy name)...
However, the majority of the long list of quests were less than involving. Take character A to point B... This doesn't constitute as a involving, genre breaking quest. Even the main quest was lacking, you went around and bribed people, did more of the afore mentioned crap quests, then you were named Kwizach Haderach... big whoop.
I played Ultima Underwold 6ish years ago, and I STILL remember it BETTER than morrowind. Same with say, Ultima 7... Why? Because MW is all fluff.
oRGy on 12/6/2002 at 02:25
Just playing Ultima7 with Exult at the moment, what a game. I mean, the relative size of cities and the world map is silly, but thats the only real gripe I have.
Everywhere is memorable. Great little surprises everywhere - I visited Iolos house in Yew, ("home sweet home" Iolo says) and read the message left by Gwenno relating to Serpents Isle. The house itself was in a complete mess, so I spent 5 minutes moving all the garbage outside and putting the clothes into the desk. :D
Then I went to talk to that ranger, Tseramaud or whatever his name was. Noted that he felt like a real character. An individual.
Then I went over to his little seat by the sea (with the candle on the big mushroom beside it-cute), picked up a fishing rod and went fishing, and ate some lovely trout. :)
And those other great bits - the NPC's that go to bed, go to work, close or open windows depending on the weather, go to taverns for food or attend Fellowship meetings, all this 10 years ago.
The level of interactivity, the intelligent plot that was designed for adults instead of teenagers with its guarded references to Scientology and class conflict.. Brilliant. Totally brilliant, exult weirdness and performance problems aside.
Kilana on 12/6/2002 at 02:38
So to sum up the current offtopic talk on this thread... Morrowind lacks in the gameplay department due to repetitive quests(which probably shouldnt qualify as quests), almost no originality in gameplay, MW is only graphics, and games like Ultima where alot better.
Btw: whats wrong with text games, I liked Dragon realms a while back, but it got too hard for me.
Tuco on 12/6/2002 at 02:39
Orgy, it didn't have long unrelated books in it... so it are suck...
Actually, I rather enjoyed reading your post(See, Tuco can read and like it!!)
I remember that Ranger that joined my party... Tsuremu or something =D
I remember him talking about the bees in that cave to the NW, and you use some device to scare them off make them non-agro...
Or that little munchkin... dern, the blonde one who's father got murdered in... the starting city... How he hit the fly near Iolo's head =D
MW does not compare to Ultima...
MW = Quantity
Ultima = Quantity + quality =D
(PS, ultima ALSO had dragons with LOTS of diamonds on them1!!!)
