G'day
With Looking Glass gone bust, who owns the rights to Terra Nova: SFC? Like lets entertain the idea I could be in a position to buy it. Who would I be buying it off and how much you rekon it would be worth to the owner (game rights of a game made by a now defunt game developer; 5 years old [i think] game).
Just wondering about this... Also would buying the rights also = buying the source code to the game? As i'd love to enterain the idea of gettin gout a sequel with online play or at least a multiplayer pack for the original game (update it to run under win9x natively).
I guess i can (wet) dream..errr right mmmk ;)
Regards

Well, Terra Nova was self-published by Looking Glass, so I presume the rights to the TN property in their entirety belong to whoever acquired such things when LG folded.
How much are they worth? I haven't the foggiest idea. I would imagine probably not a huge amount -- the game sadly didn't sell well, and as you say is now 5 years old. However the owners would quite likely wish to recoup money from their LG property should such an opportunity arise, so if someone was keen to use it, they might decide to charge a sizable amount.
I've also entertained such thoughts, but they're nothing more than that for the present (and most likely the future), so I've never made any real enquiries.

Er... The Virgin Interacive logo's on my copy of SFC, and I've seen it republished under their ''White Label'' budget name, so even if there are no plans to re-release it again, I reckon it shouldn't be back-breakingly hard to find a second-hand copy. My copy's just the jewel case, salvaged from the pre-owned section of my local games store. I've also got that othe LGS gem, System Shock, the CD edition, though that was somewhat harder to find. However, regarding an SFC re-release, well, another company that's gone bust, the Software Refinery's game ''Slipstream 5000'' just got a budget re-release on the ''Sold Out'' label here in Britain, so I wouldn't rule it out.

Also, I seem to remember multiplayer games of SFC being advertised on the British dervice Wireplay, though it's little more than a hazy memory.

That would be so cool. Why the hell didn't loads of people buy SFC? I was so desparate for a copy, I paid £15 ($20 i think) to have one shipped to me from America. It's so cool!
If a remake were to be made, you'd have to look at something like the Tribes 2 engine. The quake 3 engine couldnt handle the big outdoor areas as well. Oh I live in hope....why doesnt some talented mod maker do one? I would but I can't code stuff or model stuff. It would rule.
Sorry...I babbled on a bit there :)
