I´m thinking in buying a new pc with windows Vista, does anyone knows if it is possible to play thief 1,2,3 on windows vista?

Of course! I play TG and T2 on my Vista64 machine. All I had to do was use imagecfg as the permanent fix for dual core processor. Now I'm also running DDFix, the Widescreen patch and Telliamed's new expanded Dromed resolution util and it's all working fine.

I've got Windows 7 running on another computer. It plays Thief with a few minor adjustments. (Installing KLite codec pack, disabling UAC for video playback)
I've got DDFix, Widescreen as well as the Dual Core fix.
Basically I just returned Darloader to normal, copied over the Thief 2 folder, changed the links in the install.cfg and dark.cfg to reflect the changes.
I do have one minor issue and that is that the menu screens don't seem to 'scale' properly, it looks jagged and not smooth unlike when I used XP.

I would recommend installing the games into a directory other than "Program Files" in Vista , since I gather there is some write-protection going on there, which may interfere with Fan Missions. [I'm not too clear on the details since I don't use Vista, but I've heard it mess up other games]

Pedro, look in the Stickies in this forum for info and links on the fixes. And I agree, don't install it under Program Files. I just copied the Thief folders (I have multiple installs) it from my old XP system over to the new on inside something like C:\Thief\ to avoid any issues. Program Files is mostly a problem in 64bit system I think than Vista but it doesn't hurt to be careful.

I think the wise option to take is install Windows Xp and avoid all those issues, unfortently i don´t know how long will we be able to have games compatible for windows Xp, its really annoying that we have to keep up to the tecnologies changes , and great old games won´t be compatible with the new operative systems, i hope in future Microsoft develop a system that will allow to run every game, from the first to the last...anyway thanks for your help and suggestions:thumb:

Windows 7 is going to include an XP Compatibility Mode, basically an XP Virtual Machine app for Dummies. It's supposed to make it much easier to run older games in Win7 than it is in Vista.
