Can you complete Deus Ex without killing or KO'ing a single creature? I'm trying to "ghost" the whole game, you might say, but I don't recall if there is anyone I absolutely need to knock out or kill. Also, are there any sub-objectives that come to mind that require you to directly or indirectly use force?

It had been discussed that Howard Strong is the only person you must kill/KO in order to finish the game. However, some missions are almost impossible to "succeed" without kill/KO, such as Tiffany Savage's rescue. How can you let her run through one MIB, two MJ12 commandos, two MJ12 troops, and two bad doggies safely to Jock's helicopter, without you dealing with guards first? Yes you can continue the game even if you failed, but you'll lose an important item, and you'll feel guilty too. :tsktsk:

What about
Anna and Gunther?
I don't think it's possible to get past them without KO/Killing them

IIRC, you can just run away Gunther when he finally tracks you down at the Templar Cathedral. Of course, you'll have to make sure that Jaime comes with you to HK straight away so that you don't get Gunther's killcode thingy, but that's not a problem.
Not that sure about Anna though - pretty sure you have to kill her to make Alex give you the key when UNATCO base is under lockdown. Hrhm. :erg:

think you can just ko her. 2nd game promises complete avoidance of death, heres hoping, for the sake of my pasty pacifist ass :P.

Driver: you don't have to kill/KO either of them. However, if you just run loose Gunther at Templar's cathedral, the hologram dialogue from Walton Simons would not begin, since Simons would say "He's the last of mechs" and you'd reply "You know he'll fight to the death," but Gunther is still ALIVE then.
Not killing Anna is more tricky: you have to throw a grenade (preferably non-lethal ones, such as EMP) towards her, causing her to flee. I've never tried this because I always want to keep Juan Lebedev alive (that's 200 points of exp!) but someone else has.

... to cause her to flee, and that is, straight through the locked door. After she opened the exit door for you, all you have to do is to get past her and out. ;)
Another horrible mission to play non-lethally are the catacombs - if you want to save the hostages, that is.
In some cases, it is just annoying how many skill points / exploration points / interaction points you lose if you ignore quests. :(

So Navarre just flies away and Gunther is after you through half of the game because he wants to avenge her death? ;)
And what about Simons? Can you get past him without killing him, too?
I mean, if you hide in the shadows in the cavern using Invisibility aug or Thermoptic camo, then sneak past him away?

I mean, if you hide in the shadows in the cavern using Invisibility aug or Thermoptic camo, then sneak past him away? Yes you can. You'll meet him again at the entrance of Area 51. You can evade him once more if you want, but he's just "an ugly SOB." :ebil:
