I was going thru the Dren Plantation, and accidentally killed Orvas Dren... I didn't get a notice saying "the thread of prophesy has been broken..." so I assumed it was OK and continued on. Do I need to go back and not kill him? Does it matter? Thanks! :)

Is It OK to kill Orvas Dren?
Yes. Kill everyone in the entire damned plantation, with the sole exception of Hides-His-Foot.

The duke Vedam Dren will not be pleased- or so he says. There is a Hlaalu quest involving Orvas Dren at some point, IIRC.
However, like Exile says, I don't think it matters in the great scheme of things.

Don't you have to kill him anyway as part of the
Fourth Trial (main quest)? IIRC, you need his vote for Hlaalu Horator, but kill him instead.
At least that's what I did... :p
So in fact, you may have saved yourself a future task. :)

Is it ok to kill the Duke, Vedam Dren? Man, I hate that guy. Thinks he's so smart with his little goatee and his big castle. . .

No. Find someone else to kill, you idiot.
Calydon on 30/6/2003 at 23:01
that's not very nice.
what happens if I kill him? Will it break the main quest? Any minor quests?

HE'S THE DUKE. FIGURE IT OUT FOR YOURSELF.

Exile's just mad because he attacked the duke and got one-shotted.

I'm an idiot, but I'm not that type of idiot. The only person of high authourity that I've had balls enough to attempt killing without prompt from a quest (with the exception of Vivec) is Almalexia, after she issued that whole dust storm quest. But even then, I wasn't given a chance, for the millions of particle effects that came afterwards made my fps take a dirtnap. A few seconds later, as I was desperately trying to keep up the drunken stupor attained by all that Flin so that I could successfully carry and use Stendarr's Hammer, I got a fatal and had to reboot. I figured that the same would happen for Helseth, so I kept my hands to myself.
Dren is Hlaalu, but he isn't as scumlike as the others, so you have to at least give him credit. Also, he's surrounded by the East Empire Company. And I don't want to risk getting expelled.
In the end, however, it all works out, because I made Almalexia wear her divine ass as a hat quite some time ago.
