has anyone tried going to the Red Mountain to be "friends with Dagoth Ur", as Dagoth Gares tells you to before you kill him? What are the advantages and disadvantages of being evil and serving Dagoth Ur?

I don't think you can turn totally evil in that way. IIRC, there was once a thread on the subject, entitled something like 'anywhere for the evil to hang?' Have a search; it's either here or on the MW hints and spoilers forum

Don't read my post if you haven't beat the main quest yet.
While Dagoth Ur likes to feed you the line that you could join him and be friends forever - rule the world, destroy the outlanders, etc - at the last moment, he decides that he just doesn't trust you enough to share (heck, you're an outlander, after all :) ) Basically, you are never given any option to really "chose" your side. Personally, I was rather disappointed. I think it would be cool if you could earn the hatred of all the civilized inhabitants of Morrowind and rule over them as a god (after you stabbed Dagoth Ur in the back, of course :ebil: ) Ah, well. Can't have everything, I guess.
and you can't become a god either like the books say...
what a crappy game.

Ania well, i really searched carefully both of the MW forums for a thread on this subject before posting this thread, but i couldn't find it. I looked again after your answer, but no results again. I would be glad if you showed me that thread...

I'm disappointed, too. :( I wish there had been an opportunity of choosing the evil side and playing a completely different scenario... Why are all the rpg story writers are good?:D
and I completely agree with you, Tuco, about the crappiness.:erg:

As I've posted here in the past, the worst thing about it is that the game leads you to believe you CAN join Dagoth Ur, before yanking that possibility out of sight at the last minute. However, there's still a lot of scope for roleplaying different kinds of characters, especially with the very different kinds of quests offered by the Great Houses...

Does that mean you'll be staying, then? ;)
Interesting choice of name by the way, yrch. Do you play as an Orc?

I was just going to ask him that! :D What are the odds: a Tolkienist posts exactly what I was going to say.
Well do you? :cheeky:
