To think that after all of these years, a Thief movie would finally be made...Not in the beloved classic Thief Universe, but in the mediocre bowels of the NuThief Universe.
Such a travesty would only add insult to injury...:nono:

Silent Hill, if you disregard the fact that it's a mash-up of several elements from the first three games. It's a pretty solid horror film overall. Nothing incredible but it gets the job done and the atmosphere is pretty well done.
I'd argue Silent Hill was a pretty bad video game movie. It misunderstood a lot of things that worked about the series (what the hell are Pyramid Head and the nurses doing here apart from being extras for a Michael Jackson dance video homage?), and the things that it
did understand were kludged into scenes of over-the-top tone-deafness by the end. The first game was never very subtle, but it did dripfeed details at a rate that maintained the atmosphere and didn't shove everything off the deep end in one fell swoop.

Hard to tell, but I don't think they are done with the franchise quite yet. Looking at what they are doing with the Hitman series, they might instead start selling more individual missions to the reboot as DLC. Or they might want to make a more open world game to compete with all the open world games that have come out recent years (like the Arkham games or the Ass Creed series), although they kind of already have Tomb Raider to fill that niche. Only time will tell.
It is highly unlikely that reboot will receive additional DLC, especially something as substantial as new missions, this long after its release.
As for whether Thief 2014's sequel is going to adopt new Hitman's take on episodic scheme, well that depend on how successful that scheme is going to be for Hitman. Jury is still out on that one...

Well, you never know. They might do a Special Edition/Director's Cut type of release. When we are dealing with Squeenix, I wouldn't underestimate their willingness to milk more money out of old releases. Especially if, as you say, they were pleased with the sales.

SE officials were pleased with its sales.
I'd like to know what you're basing that on. These days, if a game does well, you you almost always get DLC within 6-9 months and/or a sequel announcement within a year or two. We've had neither. The only thing I remember seeing about Thief's sales was that EM said they were "favorable," which is an incredibly lukewarm response.
Considering the average review for Thief was less than 70%, I'm guessing EM has decided to move on to something else. But maybe someday we'll get yet another attempt at (another) reboot.

Neither Tomb Raider reboot nor Hitman Absolution received anything resembling substantial content DLCs, nor were the sequels confirmed so soon after their release. And, if you find SE's comments about Thief's commercial success "lukewarm", what would you say about their comments on TR reboot's sales where they openly complained how they failed to reach their expectation?
And yet, both games received their AAA sequels.
Thief sequel is happening, I am absolutely certain of that.

I'm not disputing another sequel may be coming, I was arguing more that EM wasn't happy with Thief's sales. It's obvious they weren't happy with Tomb Raider's or Hitman's sales either. But these are franchises with value and a following, so yes, eventually they're going to try to go to the well again.
I guess it's too much of a pipe dream that EM will give up on Thief and Otherside will pick it up instead.

As regards the OP, no. Too much of the charm is based on thw activity of actually playing the damn thing, I'm not sure it translates to other mediums well. There's a tendency to view movie adaptations as somehow legitimising a franchise, and it's basically not true. I would use a stronger way of saying 'not true' but you still can't swear here, is that right? In case Jesus or Will Smith gets sad or something?

Otherside has already strongly implied that they will be making a spiritual successor to Thief at some point, but have no plans to try and acquire the IP. Given the people they've brought on board for UA and SS3 (including Terri Brosius!), it would be a very logical next project.

Just watch, they'll call it Thief 2
