I'll answer the question with another question: has there ever been a good film adapted from a game franchise?
The ones I've seen tend to have worse writing than the games themselves, or at the very least don't follow the story / lore / setting very closely.

I wouldn't call them good exactly, but Resident Evil, Prince of Persia and Mortal Kombat were at least watchable. Sort of.

I guess I don't understand this - I mean, a good Thief movie is possible, if you used the plot and atmosphere from the Dark Project, and had Hammerites and Pagans and Keepers and Constantine and Viktoria, etc (the plot from T2 was too strange to make into a movie, IMO). But basing it on the new game? I think we all know that Thief 2014 didn't do very well, so why do they think there would be a large interest in a movie based on a mediocre game? Bizarre. Now we're going to get a movie with Erin and Orion and "The Baron" and the Thief Taker General. Blech, no thanks.

Silent Hill, if you disregard the fact that it's a mash-up of several elements from the first three games. It's a pretty solid horror film overall. Nothing incredible but it gets the job done and the atmosphere is pretty well done.

SE officials were pleased with its sales.
Anyway, I wonder, could this mean that the announcement of Thief 2014 sequel is around the corner?

Hard to tell, but I don't think they are done with the franchise quite yet. Looking at what they are doing with the Hitman series, they might instead start selling more individual missions to the reboot as DLC. Or they might want to make a more open world game to compete with all the open world games that have come out recent years (like the Arkham games or the Ass Creed series), although they kind of already have Tomb Raider to fill that niche. Only time will tell.
