Just that. A thief movie would be amazing, yes or/and no and why? In brief, I say yes because of its characters and ambience and no because of its dynamics and ambience. My full opinion is in here: (

Let the pros and cons begin!

I think it's a fantastic idea and I can't wait to see what comes of it.
Agreed. If done right, it could be a spectacular film.

Yes, and I DO hope they will do it right.. atmosphere is most important!

Well unless the film consists mostly of shadows and silotlettes (like the cutscenes ingame) Im not sure if I would like it. Part of what made the cinematics in the games so great is that you never see a full person. If it just would have been remade into a standard hollywood blockbuster I would somewhat cringe.

If it's based on the new game, which it probably will be, I won't like it one bit. I never played it, but the few excerpts of dialogue I've heard were absolute trash, and they got rid of practically everything interesting and unique about the Thief universe (Keepers, Pagans, Hammers, colors other than black and grey, the word taff) that would make for an enjoyable movie. A proper Thief movie would be fantastic, but I have little faith in their ability to deliver that. Going to keep my hopes high and expectations low for this one. Also, top-notch research from the writer of that article. No mention at all of Looking Glass Studios being the original developers, something a simple Google search would reveal, but I guess that's too much effort for modern journalism.

Instead of a movie, why don't producers turn it into a series so that they do not have to condense the lore and content to a mere 2 hour time-frame

Screenwriting team Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Misconduct, Not Safe for Work) will write the screenplay
Looked these guys up on imdb, they've written (
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0556573/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) about a dozen movies, the highest rated one has 5.8, tho most are in the 4-5 area. I don't have high hopes for this.

To me the reason we don't (and shouldn't) have a Thief movie is the same reason we don't have a movie for John Wyndham - The Chrysalids book.
Those who has read The Chrysalids know it - it's a book that talks about telepathy all the time. Just won't work on the screen. It will be a huge bore.
Same goes for Thief. All that hiding into shadows which takes too long won't make a good movie.

Thief, the Movie was a pretty cool idea, and I think it was pulled off well. See for yourself:
