This really galls me about funerals too, and it's the reason I eventually started refusing to do them when I was a pastor.
Holy pieces of cow man, you were a pastor?
News to me.

Not that I'd ever work in a building like the WTC (I have nightmares about being trapped on the outsides of very tall buildings), but if this piece was written in 1976, it's possible that things had changed 20+ years later.

Add Ted Kennedy to that list, who's large list of misdeeds was forgotten by pretty much everyone except Fox's warlock evening news commentators.

That's a ridiculous generalization. Especially since the man left someone to die and got away with it. Later good deeds or no, the fact that some people want to gloss that over makes me shake my head.
If I were a more irritating sort of person I could say that ignoring what happened at Chappaquiddick is sexist. If it had been someone important, like a fellow politician (whom were mostly if not all male), then people would give a shit, but because it was some woman Teddy was schmoozing up to nobody cares.

...But, once he died, suddenly he became a saint. People sold their homes so they could pay to get into some cheesy memorial. Hell, people actually killed themselves because they couldn't see living in a world without Michael Jackson...
You make it sound as though these people represent the majority, which they are not. It's the media that are eager to paint these public figures one way or another post-mortem for 'journalistic' *scoff* purposes, although such has little to no effect on pre-existing individual opinions. In Jackson's case, the prevailing opinion was and is that, while his stunts in the later part of his life were bizarre to say the least, that's mostly a footnote to a lifetime of his musical career that had an impact on pop music. However, those who didn't grown up on his music and remember him predominantly as a pedophile (which remains an allegation to date, by the way), will maintain their negative perception despite the media's portrayal of him one way or another.
Same with Chappaquiddick. People who were less forgiving about that incident prior to his death would not suddenly form a favorable opinion about him just because he died. The only thing that's changed now in both cases is the shift in media focus.

This really galls me about funerals too, and it's the reason I eventually started refusing to do them when I was a pastor. Nevermind that this cockflop beat his kids and cheated on his wife, when he's laying up there in the casket, they all wanted me to say wonderful things about him. What utter bullshit. I realized I didn't need to be doing funerals for people when I was actually glad they were gone. The glee was starting to shine through...
yeah pastor i realize that loving your enemies and forgiving trespasses and shit is hard but i'm pretty sure some guy asked you to do it

WAS a pastor. I'm pretty sure nobody in the bible asked anyone to lie about a dead asshole. I could be wrong because God supported some vicious scum in the old testament like king David but I don't recall it.
Luckily I've always been a bastard so when I say go back to posting chakats you don't have to take it personal. You don't know fett.

Wasn't me. And for all I know, fett had good reasons to quit the job. He's still a fan though, deep down. :D
